Naivety costs the young Chichester team.

Chichester City Ladies faced league favourites Norwich City at Oaklands Park on Sunday. Another sweltering day was always going to be a tough test for the newly promoted side for their first home match but nobody would have expected the typically cohesive Chichester to fall apart as they did.

The game started brightly for the Lilywhites stringing together several passes through the back line and midfield. A travel tired Norwich took some time to find their stride but soon showed their quality and exploited a space in behind the Chichester left back, the resultant cross was met by the unmarked Norwich striker at the back post who coolly headed home.

Chichester continued to play and dominated large sections of the half with Challen narrowly missing the target with a great strike. Norwich played well with their captain dictating much of the play and a decisive pass soon split the Chichester defence in half as the Canaries went two up. Half time saw the introduction of Shrubb, this soon change the dynamics of the match. Her pace and strength was too much for Norwich to handle and before long one of her shots was fumbled and the ever present Challen hit home with her third goal in two games. The match seemed to be progressing well for the home side until levels of immaturity started to come through.

The professionalism of Norwich shone through and exploited the naivety of a young Chichester team, they soon added two more goals to their tally to roll out 4-1 winners. Chichester have lessons to be learnt from this match as they travel away to Ebbsfleet next week as what is proving to be a tough season.
