Chichester City Ladies out played and out classed Portsmouth University Ladies to roll out a 5-0 victory at a packed Oaklands Park this Sunday.
Chi Ladies first clean sheet of the season was brought about through fantastic midfield shape and movement conducted by the ever present veteran Kirsty Willett. This in addition to another solid performance from McNamara’s back line made the goal mouth impenetrable .
Chichester were undefeated through pre season and the early stages of the league campaign but were yet to produce a convincing performance. This all changed as Sunday’s team operated with class and finesse, the squad looked comfortable in possession and moved the ball well across the park to find pockets of space in the wide areas.
Pompey Uni Ladies defended well and deep but soon the striking partnership of Cheshire and Challen found space behind the back line, Cheshire’s shot was saved and Challen soon followed up to put Chi in front. Although Portsmouth had periods of possession and a couple of long shots they were ultimately out done by a quality Chichester who scored five goals from five different players.
This included two sublime free kicks from Wride and Starkey and two great team goals that were finished by Cheshire and then Shrubb. The win sees Matt Wright’s Chi Ladies move to second in the league and more importantly all the hard work on the training field is paying off. A special mention shoudl go to full debutant Emily Symonds who slotted staright into an already strong defence.
The team have a week off next Sunday and then face league favourites, Forest Green, at Oaklands on the 13th of October.
