Chichester created problems for Albion's defence, pressing through their back line and it was clear from the off, that Chichester was the stronger team. Undeniably, the strong link up between Abbey Shrubb and Rebecca Carter, and the fantastic support of Megan Evans caused problems in the oppositions defensive half, forcing them to give away a corner in the opening minutes of the game. A brilliant cross from Shrubb and a superb header from Annie Richardson saw Georgina Starkey safely tuck the ball into the back of the net, putting Chichester in the lead at 1-0.
An unfortunate tackle early on for Shrubb meant an early substitution, where Megan Thompson was bought on in her place. Despite of this, Chichester continued to play their football and created several chances on goal, with great attempts from Thompson, Evans and Richardson all hitting the crossbar. With some controversial decisions made by the ref, and a lucky break from the oppositions strikers, Albion managed to equalise the score to 1-1, however, Chi kept their composure and continued to work hard through to half time, denying Albion any more chances on goal.
Straight into the second half, Chi took control of the game, making some exceptional through balls to City's wingers, who provided Carter with the opportunity to accurately slot home a second goal for Chi only for Thompson to score minutes later with her left foot, bringing the score line to 3-1. Captain Steph Madden and Richardson displayed a flawless performance in the middle of the park winning every ball, both in the air and on the ground, proven to be a very strong partnership. Albion began to tire as the game continued and Chi made two more subs, bringing on Lucy Challen for Evans and Rosie Maher for Starkey. With a fresh pair of legs, Chi's tempo picked up once again as they dominated the game. Thompson's work rate did not go unnoticed when she made a brilliant run though Albion's back line and scoring her second goal of the game. An overall good performance and a great team spirit, lead by captain Madden, provided Chichester with a comfortable win at 4-1. Bring on next week when Chichester City play Maidstone in the FA cup.
