Heavy rain and a boggy pitch, Chi kicked off the game very slow and found it difficult to put their foot on the ball. With the amount of possession equal from both sides, the conditions proved to be a problem as both struggled to play their football. It wasn't long before a tough decision was made from the ref awarding the away side with a penalty in the early stages of the game. Peterborough now in the lead at 1-0, Chichester upped their tempo and turned their game around almost immediately. Perseverance and hard work shown from the Chichester side saw Abbey Shrubb score a returning goal shortly after, bringing the scoreline to a draw, after making a fantastic run through the Peterborough defence. With Chi now dominating the play and taking control of the game, Peterborough could not regain possession of the ball. What appeared to be a nervous back line on the peterborough side allowed Shrubb to comfortably score two more goals before the half time whistle came.
The second half kicked off and both sides continued to work hard as the rain started again. Peterborough made some exceptional penetrating balls through what seemed to be Chi's unprepared back line and came close on several occasions. It wasn't long before they were able to score another goal. Despite this, Chi kept their composure and with the fantastic effort and hard work from a few individuals such as Megan Thompson and Stephanie Madden, Chi managed to score yet another goal from the mighty Shrubb, the score line now at 4-2. As the rain continued the pitch was getting worse and both teams were starting to tire. Finishing the game on a high, Shrubb scored yet another goal allowing Chi to smash their way through this round of the cup with a well deserved win at 5-2. A fantastic team effort and a brilliant win, Chi are due to play at home to West Ham in the next round of the FA Cup on the 8th January. BRING IT ON.
