The Green Army began the week with extreme confidence following a fantastic display against QPR on Sunday seeing them being knocked out of the premier league cup on penalties by a team in the division above. Southampton Saints visited Oaklands park on Thursday night and the team were looking to build on that positive performance from the weekend. The game started at an extremely high tempo with both teams looking to take the initiative. Chichester were looking the more dangerous in front of goal and were rewarded when a jinking run from Kally Ambler saw here in front of goal and she blasted her shot into the roof of the next to give the home side the lead.
The game restarted and shortly after Chichester were forced to reshuffle their pack when captain Jade Widdowson was forced off through injury. Southampton sensed this was their opportunity and flooded forward in numbers gaining there equaliser through a fierce Becki Bath strike. There was enough time left in the half for both keepers to be tested however it the visitors who took the lead going into the break 2-1 to the good.
In the second half further injuries to Cheshire and Ambler forced Chichester to play several players out of position and the final 20 minutes with 10 players. The half was very even with neither side creating many opportunities. With only players on the field Southampton managed to get their third and seal the game when a tired Chichester defence allowed their left winger to cut in and strike low into the bottom corner.
