CHIEFS Vs HOWICK HORNETS

Over the last two weeks I have been stressing how desperate each team is to reach the semi finals.
Nothing has changed.
Howick is still alive. They have a chance to move forward to the playoffs.
All they have to do is beat us on Saturday....simple as that!

We saw against Mt Albert how the desperation to 'stay alive' can be a great motivating factor.
Howick has that same motivation.
Previous results are history. They count for little.
One thing the Chiefs can be sure of....they are in for a battle.

How can we win?

* Firstly, READ THIS!!!

* Get rid of the COMPLACENCY....Get it into your head this will be a tough game. Respect your opposition!

* KNOW what YOUR ROLE is. Be confident in your ability to carry it out. Think about it. Set personal goals.
- Big boys, don't shy away from doing your hit ups. Dominate the ruck area.
- Hookers, clear the ball quickly. Look for opportunities to run.
- Halfbacks/standoffs, guide the team around the field. Gain good field position. Call the plays.
- Backs, display your speed and skills.
- Everyone, tackle, tackle, tackle! Get the basics right. Eliminate the errors. Focus!

* PREPARE THOROUGHLY. This can be in regard to a number of things eg:
- Get a good nights rest. Don't stay up late gaming or facebooking.
- Have a good breakfast. Mainly carbs eg. porridge, cereals, baked beans, toast. Your food is your fuel.
- Make sure all your gear is ready the day before the game. Boots, socks, mouthguard, shorts etc.
- Make sure all taping of injuries and other special needs are met prior to the team warm-up.
- Make sure you are well hydrated. You should start sipping water at least an hour before the game.
- Eat your 'lollies' and drink your water at half time. They are supplied for energy. Personal energy drinks can also be taken at half time.
- In the lead up to the game start focusing on what your job is. Think about what personal goals you want to achieve.

Remember your teammates are going to be trying their hardest for the team.
It is your responsibility to match their effort.
Don't let the 'brothers' down.

I can't stress enough how dangerous a team with everything to play for can be.
Howick is such a team.
If we match their desperation with equal amounts of enthusiasm and controlled aggression....we will win.

GO THE CHIEFS!!
