As the contact season finishes and it feels like an age until you can throw a rugby ball around in vain and stitch up your mates with a few killer sidesteps or dummy passes, fear not, Touch is here to fill that gap!
We have an O2 TOUCH Centre at Chippenham RFC, affiliated to the England TOUCH Association.
You may have watched England Rugby play at Twickenham and wondered why the advertising boards keenly display ‘PLAY TOUCH!’ but thought to yourself, what and where? You may have seen Ugo Monye talking nonstop on TV about Touch, and thought what and where?
Touch is played twice a week at Chippenham Rugby Club and Touch never stops! The Touch section is called Chippenham Cheetahs Touch.
Come wind, rain, sun and shine Chippenham Cheetahs play Touch every Wednesday and Friday.
The late spring and summer months are ideal Touch conditions and you are all warmly invited to join the fun and shake off the post regular season blues. There is no such thing as an offseason for Touch and all that is required is a ball, boots, and a desire to give it a go!
Chippenham Cheetahs play every:
Wednesday from 7.30-9pm – This is an advanced players session and the minimum age is from those in Year 10 (14-15) upwards. We strongly recommend that you have a few Friday sessions under your belt before playing on Wednesdays
Friday – From 7.30-9pm – This session is the most accessible and family friendly. This is the perfect session for new players or those who want to blow off the cobwebs ready for the weekend/next season and have a good laugh in the sun with friends. It is an ideal session for families – Mums & Dads, sons & daughters, the whole family!
We also run a session called Chippenham Cheetah Cubs from 7-8pm on Fridays for new and young players from 9-13 years old. This session is run by senior player, James, and is a great way to for our youngest players to find their feet and get used to the game amongst similarly skilled and experienced new players. It overlaps with the later session to provide some game time with the later session and a chance to show off what you’ve learnt!
Touch is a wonderfully inclusive sport. No matter how good you are at contact, no matter how unfit you think you might be, you can play Touch! One of the key parts of Touch at Chippenham is that we are all united by a desire to have fun, give it a go and have a laugh (as well as have a laugh over a drink afterwards too!)
Contact Will & Sue Wilkinson, James Timbrell, Andy Lewis, Steve Whitehead, Jake Hyland, Nick Reagan, Karl Serevena to find out more.
We pay SUBS like all of the other sections but it is a small price to pay for some summer fun.
Check out ‘Chippenham Cheetahs Touch’ on Facebook. Keep an eye on the club website for information. Turn up at 7.30pm on a Friday and give it a go.
