It is with great sadness that we have been told that Peter Rawsthorne passed away on Wednesday 13th March. We would like to pass on our condolences to his wife Maggie and family.

After having completed his National Service serving in the Royal Marines in the 1960s a period of his life that Peter was extremely proud, Peter would be found playing for Chippenham at prop, a position that he relished and was very combative in, continuing to play well into the 1970s.

It was also in 1960s that Peter served for a number of years as the clubs General Secretary and also on the selection committee. In the 1970s he also served as Membership Secretary, as well as being assistant coach to Geoff Pudney for a couple of seasons.

For a number years Peter would regularly come up and watch the games at Allington Fields and also have a drink on a Wednesday evening with others, sitting in the ‘Grumpy old men’s corner off the bar’.

I know that Peter will be sorely missed by all who knew him over the years and especially those who had the pleasure of playing rugby with him for Chippenham RFC.

Detail of arrangements will follow.

Stuart Murrow
President - Chippenham RFC
