Chippenham RFC Under 14s produced an outstanding performance to win the North Dorset Tournament, completing the day unbeaten and without conceding a single point in challenging conditions.
Played under cold, grey skies with persistent rain and gusting wind, the tournament tested both skill and resilience. Chippenham rose to the challenge from the outset, delivering a series of composed and disciplined performances throughout the day.
In the group stage, Chippenham overcame strong opposition, recording convincing wins against Frome RFC, Chard, and Wimborne. Solid defence and well-organised attacking play were the hallmarks of their progress, as they controlled matches despite the slippery surface and difficult weather.
The semi-final saw Chippenham face hosts North Dorset, where they maintained their impressive defensive record and secured a place in the final with another assured victory.
The final against Bournemouth proved to be a tense and hard-fought contest. In worsening conditions, both teams battled fiercely, but Chippenham’s discipline, teamwork, and defensive resolve again proved decisive. As the opposition tired in the second half Chippenham’s attacking pressure began to show and an error at the breakdown allowed CRFC to slot a penalty over for 3 points. With the clock ticking down, Bournemouth rallied and pushed Chippenham deep into their own half creating a tense final few minutes. Ultimately the three points were enough for the Barbarians to edge the contest to claim the tournament title, still yet to concede a point.
It was a superb all-round team performance and a testament to the squad’s commitment, organisation, and determination, capping off a memorable day for Chippenham RFC U14s.
