Chippenham RFC U14’s dominate in first D&W fixture of the season

It was with some trepidation that Chippenham U14’s headed down to Salisbury for the first competitive fixture of the season having missed a year of D&W games. We took a small squad that have had only a few opportunities to play together so there was some uncertainty as to how they would get on.

At the start of the match it looked as if both teams were pretty evenly matched, but fairly soon it became clear that CRFC were dominating in the scrum. Chippenham were the first on the scoreboard with a try from Freddie H after an excellent offload from Will, but then Salisbury countered with a try of their own. However as the game progressed, it became increasingly one sided thanks to very effective kicking from Sam, continued domination in the scrum and a good offensive defence resulting in multiple knock-ons from the opposition. Equally scrums won by the opposition were soon being turned over at regular intervals by Chippenham such that most of Salisbury’s attacking opportunities were smothered before they had a chance to get anywhere.

Try scorers in the match included Freddie H, James, Will and Ethan B with the final result 8 – 2. Overall a good start to the D&W competition for Chippenham U14’s but there is still plenty of room for improvement as the squad continues to gel and communicate better on the pitch. We now look forward to the next D&W fixture next week when we face up to Bradford on Avon at Allington Fields.
