Chippenham 3rds v Combe Down 2nds
By MIKE WHEELER
Winning streak continues with pace, power and youth!!
So, for Captain Wheeler it was 'Can we find a referee?' the call went out via Twitter etc , DW co-ord redirected Heath our direction thank you Sir. Loosing a couple of announced players was negated by Regan, Bailey rocking up and Academy Director dosed up on Ibuprofen to lock horns along side his talented U 17's! Game on, slope/wind in our favour, great warm up and Chippenham gents with a sprinkling of youth were quickly into this revenge mission.
Playing with flare and style young Tim Moon opened the scoring going, backing himself to grace over unconverted by Hamilton. Dean Atkin arrows spot on finding Moon/Adams at will, great first phase possession. Phase possession continued with the heavy shifter's of Goulding, Johnson & Harding at scrum time giving young Elliot Ayliffe great ball and boy did he use it!! From such possession Moon went over again unconverted by Hamilton. Slamming Sam Goulding put in some great hits playing through the pain barrier. Chippenham next try was a classic with Ayliffe breaking, finding Moon to eventually offload to the supporting Josh Dennien to score its like they had played together ....only 12 years!!! Combe Down were very unlucky not too score from close range scored, referee gave it only to go back for knock on. Spurway and Hanlon were constant menace at the break down holding the ball up countless times. Gorgeous George Brookes was keen to impress after missing out on 2nd team selection, he cut in from the wing back himself with scintillating pace to score converted by Ayliffe in front of the posts.
Second half continued much in the same vain with the opposition not able to live with Gents desire, aggression and shear dominance in all aspects defence was again key with all players contributing. The back line of Spurway, Hanlon and Summers were cutting up all game finding Brookes,Dennien and the supporting Lewis it must have been a joy to watch!! Young Elliot Ayliffe was next to score. Did you get it on camera Dad [Greg]? Combe down showed great character and again were unlucky not to score with the impressive Andy Lewis holding the player up over the line with great D!! Young rookie Summers made way for Regan to have run. Hamilton was putting a great shift and must have confused the opposition by playing back row. Wheeler was getting special attention by a Combe Down player.... call from the side... leave the old man alone! Moon who was having a field day at number eight scored two more tries great shift one converted by Ayliffe. Summers returned for Lewis with no one really wanting to leave the field. Chippenham dominance, saw the game out to avenge the earlier reversal.
Final Score: Chippenham 3rds 41- 0 Combe Down 2nds
