Pacey Bassett hound Chippenham defence!

Chippenham A played top of the table Royal Wootton Bassett this week in a top of the table clash.

Chippenham started the brighter team and in the first 10 minutes created chances, threatening the Bassett goal but were unable to capitalise on them.

Bassett were a well drilled, skilful and rapid team and attacked Chippenham in numbers and at pace. The home team opened the scoring after about 15 minutes with a bit of a scrappy goal when Chippenham failed to clear their lines.

Bassett added another to make the scoreline 2-0 before half time.

Chippenham rallied in the second half and scored a well worked penalty corner, Elliot Jones deflecting the ball into the roof on the net making the score 2-1.

Within a minute Bassett regained their 2 goal advantage when they caught Chippenham sleeping and overran the defence leaving an unmarked player to slot the ball home. 3-1.

Bassett were vulnerable at the back, and Chippenham never gave up and created a number of chances to score, and several penalty corners won, but all to no avail and their clinical finishing of previous weeks was absent.

Bassett added 3 more goals, again hitting the Chippenham team at pace and moving the ball around attacking in numbers.

Chippenham team gave their all to try and redress the balance, but goals simply evaded them.

A consolation goal came a minute from time when a mis-hit strike from a penalty corner found striker Craig Kilminster to slot the ball away, making the final score 6-2 to Bassett.

The scoreline perhaps not truly reflecting the match, with end to end attacking hockey from both teams and a fairly equal number of chances to score for both teams, however, it was Bassett who proved more clinical finishers in front of goal this time.

Chippenham had beaten Bassett 6-1 in the early season return fixture, but were unable to reproduce the result this time around.

Chippenham remain in second place behind Bassett and will look to return to winning ways next week.
