Chippenham Town recorded a morale-boosting victory over local rivals Weston Super Mare in their quest to avoid relegation.

Chippenham Town recorded a morale-boosting victory over local rivals Weston Super Mare in their quest to avoid relegation.
The Bluebirds made the most of the snow at their backs and hit two goals inside the opening quarter of an hour before sitting back and absorbing Weston’s pressure.
Seagulls keeper Luke Purnell did well to come out on top in a third minute one on one with Andy Sandell.
Two minutes later Weston’s Trystan Plummer saw his shot blocked. Chippenham took the lead on nine minutes as Sandell spun in the box before firing home Kaid Mohamed’s low cross.
Three minutes later Mike Jones’s shot from out wide on the right went across the face of goal and beyond the far post.
On fourteen minutes Jones, deputising at right back for Dan Bowman who has emigrated to Australia, scored a superb second as he cut in from the right before executing a superb lob over Purnell.
The Bluebirds then sat back to protect their lead.
On twenty four minutes Jason Pope’s low shot from distance was saved by Jared Thompso a minute later Chippenham claims for handball in the area were waived away.
Pope then saw another speculative effort go wide.
On thirty five minutes James Guthrie picked out Mohamed whose shot from distance was saved.
A minute later Danny Greenslade’s low cross was flicked wide by Gethyn Hill.
Before the interval Jones saw his shot blocked and Robbie Patten skewed the rebound wide whilst Thompson held Jared Welch’s rasping drive.
The match followed a similar pattern after the break as the Somerset side failed to pierce the home defence despite again having the majority of play. Hill’s shot was blocked at the expense of a corner before the Seagulls also had shouts for a handball in the area ignored.
Aaron Parsons headed over at a Weston corner before Pope was again off target with a shot.
A quarter of an hour from time Greenslade’s free kick was only half cleared but Jake Lee’s header was saved by Thompson.
Two minutes later Dean Evans’s cross fell to Will Richards who crashed a shot against the bar from close in.
On eighty one minutes Welch shot wide and seven minutes later Guthrie’s low free kick went through the Weston wall and Purnell just managed to get down and turn the ball out for a corner.
A minute from time substitute Nick McCootie shot over before the Bluebirds were able to celebrate a second successive league victory.
