Oxford City recorded their first league win of 2019 with a dogged display at Hardenhuish Park.

Oxford City recorded their first league win of 2019 with a dogged display at Hardenhuish Park.
The Bluebirds were the first to show with Nick McCootie’s shot from an angle being turned behind by keeper Steve Caro.
At the other end Will Puddy similarly pushed over Brandon Thomas-Asante’s thirty yard shot.
On seventeen minutes Nat Jarvis was bundled over in the area by Tariq Moore-Azille and he took the responsibility of the spot kick himself, rather than nominated taker Josh Smile, but slammed his effort onto a post.
Oxford’s best chance of the half came eight minutes later when Puddy came out of his area to head clear but the clearance fell to Kabongo Tshimanga whose shot on goal saw Puddy scrabble back to grab the ball on the line.
McCootie headed over at a Chippenham corner whilst Kieran Parselle’s free kick was headed back by Will Richards to the edge of the area but Smile volleyed over.
Josh Ashby’s thirty five yard effort for the Hoops went high whilst Rhys Davies’ free kick went straight at Caro.
In the first minute of stoppage time Davies’ inswinging corner hit a post.
Two minutes after the break Puddy dived to save Thomas-Asante’s thirty yard shot.
Three minutes later the home side failed to deal with Ashby’s corner and Joe Oastler headed goalwards and Tshimanga helped the ball over the line.
On fifty six minutes Oxford’s Moore-Azille headed over at a corner. From then on
Chippenham went on to dominate as they forced a series of corners.
On fifty nine minutes Smile’s free kick saw Richards’ headed effort saved by Caro.
Three minutes later a Bluebirds’ flag kick saw Dean Evans’ bullet header blocked on the line, whilst Caro again distinguished himself as he tipped over Smile’s thirty yard effort.
On sixty six minutes Davies’ corner was only cleared as far as George Rigg but his rasping shot went wide.
In stoppage time substitute Owen James, on loan from City’s neighbours United wasted a good chance to secure the points when he was left with Puddy to beat but blasted wide.
