The strong winds sweeping the country ensured this game produced few clear cut chances as flowing football proved extremely difficult as Chippenham played out their first goalless draw of the season.
The Bluebirds had the better of the first half although on loan W.B.A. keeper, Brad House, returning to Chippenham for his second loan spell this season, pulled off two superb saves.
The first chance didn’t materialise until the twelfth minute when Karnell Chambers scuffed his shot at keeper Dean Snedker.
Five minutes later Chambers beat two defenders but his twenty five yard shot was high.
On twenty minutes a long St Albans throw ended up at the feet of Zane Banton whose dipping shot was just too high.
A minute later Chambers had Chippenham’s best chance of the game when Kieran Parselle played him in behind the defence but the ball got stuck under his feet and Snedker was able to come out block before grabbing the ball.
Chippenham’s Josh Smile and Rhys Davies both tried their luck from distance but to no avail.
Solomon Sambou’s wild shot was very high for the Saints before the visitor’s best chance of the half on thirty six minutes saw a free kick find Ben Wyatt whose shot was superbly palmed away by House and Banton’s follow-up shot hit the side netting.
The first corner of the game didn’t arrive until stoppage time but Davies’ flag-kick came to nothing.
After the break Saints’ Sam Merson (son of Arsenal legend Paul) fired into the side netting whilst House again excelled as he parried Solomon Sambou’s fiercely struck shot with George Rigg clearing the loose ball.
Chippenham’s appeal for a penalty on fifty six minutes when Nat Jarvis appeared to be held down in the box were ignored.
Just before the hour mark a Chippenham corner saw Callum Gunner’s looping header scrambled away.
A quarter of an hour from time the game was held up for several minutes as Zane Banton was stretchered off with a leg injury.
Both sides had late chances with Parselle’s headed effort at a corner hitting Snedker and Bluebird substitute Nick McCootie firing wide. In the fourth minute of stoppage time Saints skipper Tom Bender had a chance for glory at a corner but volleyed across the face of goal.
