The Bluebirds ended their winless run that had seen them not register a win in the previous six games.
It was their first success over Dartford who as a consequence of their defeat dropped out of the play-offs.
The match was largely a tactical success for Mark Collier who played a back three of teenager Harry Rutty, making only his second senior start, Greg Tindle, who was also making his second appearance since August and Kieran Parselle who were excellent in defence, backed up by Tariq Ossai and Rhys Davies who played a very defensive wing-back role until a late switch to a more attacking formation paid dividends.
The Dartford corner count went beyond a dozen but keeper Will Puddy and his defence held firm.
On thirteen minutes George Rigg’s ball just failed to reach Nick McCootie.
The home side lost Elliott Bradbrook who pulled up with a leg injury shortly after the quarter of an hour mark.
The Darts’ first chance did not come until midway through the opening half as Dan Murphy’s shot on the turn was saved by Puddy.
On twenty three minutes a good run from Josh Smile saw Nat Jarvis just fail to reach his cross although the Chippenham striker appeared to be impeded in his jump.
Before the break Puddy also pushed aside a cross cum shot from Ryan Hayes and in stoppage time Puddy held Lee Noble’s shot.
The game followed a similar pattern after the break as Puddy saved Murphy’s headed effort whilst skipper Tom Bonner headed over from a forty ninth minute corner and on the hour mark his shot was turned behind by Puddy.
Three minutes later Ben Greenhaugh shot wide before Hayes’s cross saw Puddy hold Greenhalgh’s headed effort.
The home side’s best chance fell to Noble on sixty eight minutes but from an unmarked position he headed wide.
Chippenham made the home side pay on seventy seven minutes when good work from Karnel Chambers saw fellow substitute Adriel George fire home his first goal in a Bluebird shirt. Dartford endeavoured to gain a point as on eighty four minutes Bonner and substitute Andy Pugh both failed with chances at a Darts’ corner whilst a minute later Noble’s shot took a deflection and Puddy safely held.
At the other end Bonner did well to block a Bluebird effort whilst in stoppage time appeals for a Dartford penalty went unrewarded as Chippenham held on.
