A strong comeback in the second half secured a win against a strong & powerful Park side.

Park set the tone for the game coming out of the blocks quickly with a series of strong drives, smart work at the breakdown and a direct hard running backline opening up the home defence for the opening score after 4 minutes.

Despite a decent amount of posession the home side lost posession a number of times at crucial times when scoring looked a distinct possibility allowing Park to clear their lines.

A swift break from a scrum on the 22 saw Matt Bielby offload to Appi who sidestepped the cover and score with Gary Yates adding the extras.

Park did not have much ball in the home sides 22 but when they did they made it count and for the second time worked a move and created the space to score just before half time to lead 7 v 12

A further Park penalty just after the resumption edged them out to a 7 v 15 lead.

The home side then started to play smart rugby, keeping posession better and making better decisions about the park, this resulted in better posession and the chance to use the power and pace of the backline, Pita Tamani cut inside the covering defence to score to narrow the gap to 3 points.

Five minutes later the same player was on hand after a flowing back line move to score under the posts with Gaz adding the extras giving the home side the lead for the first time on 55 minutes.

Confidence was starting to build and another well worked move saw Pita score his third try out wide, after some excellent linking between backs and forwards eventually creating the space out wide 24 v 15.

The final score came following a period of concerted pressure and the defence conceeding a number of penalties with Pita Tamani on hand to take the scoring pass from close range 29 v 15.

A man of the match performance from debutant Matt Ellis whose lineout throwing and strong carries just edging out Dan Holmes, Ed Bond & Pita Tamani.

All deserve credit for the way things were addressed and the improved performance, Alex Wanstall was another excellent debutant.

This was a strong Park side who made it a really tough game but one played in the right spirit throughout.

The teams enjoyed a few beers in the clubhouse and the home side stayed to watch the Internationals afterwards, thanks to the team at The Cheshire for their support.

Next week we entertain Moore RUFC who are expected to bring a strong squad as thy only have one team playing, we look forward to welcoming them to Mannings lane on saturday.
