Cill Dara RFC overturned a five-point halftime deficit to claim a hard-fought 17–10 victory over North Kildare at The Maws, with full back Bryn Moore’s exceptional kicking game the decisive factor both from the tee and out of hand.
First Half
The opening exchanges were scrappy, dominated by kicks for territory. Cill Dara’s usually dominant scrum faltered in the 4th minute, conceding a penalty. They quickly rallied, turning over possession from the lineout and nearly finishing a sharp backs move, only for a forward pass to halt momentum.
North Kildare’s discipline let them down early when they saw yellow for a high tackle in the 8th minute, though Cill Dara squandered the attacking lineout. With the strong wind at their backs, North Kildare capitalised in the 16th minute, their inside centre striking a long-range penalty for the first points of the day.
They extended their lead in the 28th minute when a Cill Dara attack broke down. A clever chip from the North Kildare scrum-half bounced kindly, allowing the out-half to touch down under the posts. The conversion made it 10–0.
Cill Dara finally found a response just before halftime. Pressure at a North Kildare scrum inside their own 5-metre line forced an error, and Rory Conway pounced on the loose ball to score. Into the teeth of the wind, Moore’s conversion attempt drifted wide. North Kildare nearly snatched another score before the break but were penalised for a neck roll five metres out.
Half-time: North Kildare 10 – 5 Cill Dara
Second Half
With the wind now at their backs, Cill Dara wrestled control. A cynical infringement from Billy O’Shea on 45 minutes briefly reduced them to 14 men, but they stayed composed. On 49 minutes, Colin Maloney was taken out in the air at a lineout, giving Moore a penalty which he duly converted. One minute later, he struck again to hand Cill Dara the lead for the first time, 11–10.
The game could have turned on the hour mark when a midfield scuffle saw Cill Dara's Chris Walsh red-carded. From there however, Cill Dara continued to press and their superior fitness level was obvious as North Kildare tired. Moore’s accuracy from long range proved unerring: a penalty in the 68th minute stretched the lead, another in the 74th after a high tackle pushed them further clear, and a monster kick from inside his own half to secure a 50-22 in the 79th minute all but sealed it.
Cill Dara had one final chance when Moore lined up another penalty on the halfway line in stoppage time, but his effort faded wide. It mattered little, as the visitors closed out a disciplined and deserved win.

Standout Performances
Bryn Moore (Cill Dara) – Controlled the game with tactical kicking and landed five penalties in tough conditions.
Rory Conway (Cill Dara) – Alert and opportunistic to score the crucial first-half try.
Cill Dara Scrum – Recovered after a shaky start to dominate in the set-piece.
North Kildare No. 12 – Strong with the boot and ball-in-hand, but faded after halftime.
Cill Dara will take great confidence from this comeback victory, particularly the way their forwards grew into the game and how Moore steered them home. For North Kildare, a strong first half was undone by discipline issues and the inability to adapt once the wind advantage was lost.
