If this game was played in quarters then it was two to Skerries, one to Cill Dara and one drawn. The first quarter was clearly Skerries as they had a converted try on the board after two minutes and six minutes later they had doubled the advantage and left the Cill Dara lads stunned. They didn’t drop their heads however and outscored the home team in the second half of the first half. Adam Meehan intercepted on the half-way line and sprinted under the posts to halve the deficit after fourteen minutes but 3 minutes later Skerries broke through the middle and pit 14 between the team again. Two minutes later Ryan Curran kicked an excellent penalty but once again Skerries were the next to score to bring their total to 28. Cill Dara had the last score of the game when Sean Conway touched down in the corner despite the attention of several Skerries backs
Half Time: Skerries 28 Cill Dara 15
The second half was a much closer event and both teams’ defences cancelled each other out as attacks from both sides were thwarted. If anything Cill Dara had the territorial advantage but could not add to the score. It took 24 minutes before a line-out maul from Skerries stretched their advantage. Over now as a contest Skerries ran in 2 more tries before the end to put a gloss on the score line.
Next up for the Cill Dara lads will be a repeat visit to Skerries in the quarter-final of the D’Arcy cup in what is sure to be another epic battle.
Further down the line watch out for games against two touring sides, St. David’s from South Africa (Weds 11th April) and WAP from Namibia (Sat 28th April).
