Clanfield 2 - 1 North Leigh Utd

This was the third meeting this season between the West Oxfordshire rivals and after two previous defeats in the Jim Newman Memorial Cup final and Division One West it was Clanfield 85 who at last got the better of their visitors in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup.

The home side should have gone ahead after 12 minutes but skipper Adam Pendell headed over after a cross from Joe Hiscock. A fine cross field pass by Matt Bearne saw Zac Oliver beat goalkeeper Jack Griffiths to the ball and place the ball in to the empty net to give the Robins the lead in the 23rd minute.North Leigh were given a lifeline in the 34th minute when Chris Blakely conceded a penalty but goalkeeper Mike Bawn made a brilliant save to preserve a halftime lead.

Clanfield pressed forward in the second half and Hiscock was denied by Griffiths and then hit the post. This could have proved costly as the visitors Diego Maradonna rounded Bawn but placed his shot wide. Clanfield doubled their lead in the 61st minute when Zac Oliver headed home from a cross from the right for his and his teams second goal.North Leigh pulled one back in the 73rd minute when Corey Forbes headed home to leave the game neatly poised but the home side held on to progress to the next round. A well contested encounter this enjoyed by a disappointingly low local derby crowd of just 30.
