WEEKEND ROUND UP - 3rd December 2023

WEEKEND ROUND UP - 3rd December 2023

CJFC Official3 Dec 2023 - 17:15

A full fixture list was decimated once again due to Saturday mornings frost which took out 19 of our fixtures.

The UNDER 18’s WHITES travelled to the south coast to take on AFC Stoneham Knights knowing that a win was needed to get their league form back on track.

Despite early possession it was Stoneham who took the lead through a back post finish.
Parity was soon restored following great pressing from Freddie Randall who stole the ball from the left back and then sent in an inviting ball for Jack Latter to head home at the near post.

Within minutes Stoneham had retaken the lead following a scramble at a corner.

Clarendon then looked to the bench to change the flow of the game. Jacob Hughes replaced the industrious Matt Thomson, who was suffering from a virus, Paddy Clarke joined the midfield for his 50th appearance and Jago King, Jacob Nicholson led the line.

Within minutes the two Jakes combined with Hughes releasing Nicholson to score the equaliser. Minutes later, Clarke intercepted the ball and played in King who finished a one on one to make it 3-2 at half time.

Stoneham equalised within 10 minutes of the restart. Despite their attempts to retake the lead, there was no way through the imperious back line of Ed Carrington, Max Woodroffe, Hamish Goulding, Callum Roberts and Rory Sherriff.

Clarendon got their noses in front again after Randall won a corner. Hughes controlled a bouncing ball to rifle it into the corner.
Steph Gilpin was an absolute menace up top pressuring defenders when they were on the ball and it was his tenacious tackling that resulted in Sherriff heading home for 5-3.
Stoneham weren't finished and they scored again from a corner that the red and whites failed to clear.
However, the 2 goal cushion was restored when Randall, making one of his trademark runs, found Latter to smash home. Any chance of a further comeback was snuffed out by Callum Rollins making a sharp save from a one on one late on.

The UNDER 14’s WHITES were also in the SO post code as they visited top of the table in division 2 Shirley Tornados.

Missing a number of players they battled valiantly with 10 players but ended up going down 7-0.

The UNDER 13’s WHITES was the third fixture to go ahead on Saturday as they switched their fixture.

With the frost well and truly set in at BF this weekend, the whites match vs Lyndhurst was switched to play at a Lyndhurst pitch which held up really well.

With a depleted squad due to injuries and unavailability, it was impressed on the boys to start on the front foot as they have been recently.

A very close first 15 minutes led to some strong football from both teams with both defences being tested and holding out well.

With Lyndhurst playing a very high line, the boys were keen to get in behind and it was just a question of hitting the right ball.

After thwarting an attack from the home team, keeper Hugh wood acting as sweeper keeper, connected perfectly with a through ball down the left channel which found top scorer Jack Street, who drove forward with the ball and finished with aplomb to open the scoring.

Street shortly doubled his and the teams tally, this time latching onto a through ball from Leighton Gray and once again slotting past the keeper.

With a cushion, the whites started to play some flowing football. Rory Young, playing in a more advanced midfield position, showed his quality with a lovely strike to make it 3-0 to the whites.

This was swiftly followed by Street’s Hatrick, which again came about from a quality through ball from centre back Gray.

Despite being 4 down, the hosts continued to work hard and but for some resolute defending, in particular from Freddie Green who was putting in some typical strong tackles and Olly Harris who was sweeping up in front of the back 3.

Pushing up the defence with a high line in goal, Hugh Wood looked very assured and thwarted a number of attacks with some well timed clearances.

With half time approaching, the whites were dominating once again and an unfortunate hand ball from one of the Lyndhurst defenders in the box led to a penalty for the whites, which was duly converted by captain Harry Moody for his second of the season.

Half time came with a comfortable lead, the coaches rang the changes with Leighton Gray taking over the gloves and Hugh Wood coming out into defence.

The changes disrupted the fluency slightly, however the whites soon got back into the swing with Wood looking very comfortable outfield.

Lyndhurst eventually got a goal that their efforts deserved with a well taken strike from long range.

This served to focus the whites on the job in hand who re-exerted their dominance. After intense pressure, an unfortunate own goal made the score 6-1.

Olly Harris, now controlling the midfield with Alessio Murphy and Young, laid a lovely pass through to the latter who hit an unstoppable shot to make it 7.

Moments later Young completed his hatrick with a well taken finish after good work from Isaac Rawlinson.

Overall probably the best performace of the season from the whites and 3 points which takes them up to 3rd in the league, having been bottom after 2 games

On Sunday the UNDER 10’s SUNDAY were in cup action as they hosted Hotspire.

Player of the match was Oscar Bullis who scored twice, while Bertie Bancroft also scored a double.

Ethan Spelling produced a great performance in goal while a Dylan Baldwin strike and an unlucky own goal from a corner completed the Juniors scoresheet.

The UNDER 11’s SUNDAY switched their away fixture to a recovered Barry’s Field to host their league fixture which was also against Harnham Hotspire.

Tom Latter scored 5 while Charlie Green netted a hatrick.
A productive morning in front of goal saw Max Le Page, Zach Andrews and Lawson Mahony grab braces with Karol Peski and Teddy Robinson complete the scoresheet.

In the preliminary round of the cup, Clarendon SENIOR team came up against The Village Freehouse at Victoria Park in adverse weather conditions.

A sloppy start to the match saw the home side take the lead following an error at the back after 15 minutes.

The team responded well creating a few chances, but couldn’t find an equaliser before the break.

Early in the second half a long effort from range caught Ian Meatcher out to send the home side 2 goals ahead. A long way back it seemed.

However, on the hour mark a clever through ball from Edd Blick released Aidan McMullan who calmly rounded the keeper to pull a goal back.

Within 10 minutes, the team drew level when Lewis Cross powered an effort from range passed the outstretched arm of the home keeper after Ed Rose opened up play for him.

Deservedly, the visitors completed the comeback after a cut back from Cross saw the returning Rob Nicholson pass the ball into the corner of the net.

A well earned, but hard fought win in difficult cold and wet conditions at Victoria Park see them qualify for the first round of the cup.
