The Gaffer gives us a full insight into the week gone ahead of Saturdays trip to Bridlington

Hi everyone, with the midweek game against Consett postponed Tuesday due to freezing temperatures it’s been a long week to wait to put things right from last Saturday’s disappointing defeat against Long Eaton.

Last Saturday we suffered a lot. I felt the score line may have flattered the opposition a little and the reason I say that is Macca in goal didn’t have much to do during the 90 minutes however, he finds himself picking the ball out of his net on 3 occasions. For us, we fell well short of the levels we are capable of and we can have no excuses on the day, second best all over the pitch which hurts me to say as that’s the first time I’ve had to say that.

It’s a difficult moment for us and it’s not a time to feel sorry for ourselves. We have to take our medicine, hold ourselves accountable and be better for the experience.

It’s been an intense period for the players, taking on a lot of information in a short space of time, adapting to new expectations, whilst looking after their own performances and that isn’t easy to do.

I’m not making excuses for the players but it’s my job as manager to reflect, and find the right solutions to keep improving. We have a great togetherness and team spirit and we won’t be defined by one or two results. I believe in this group 100% and it’s time we start fulfilling our potential.

Saturday at Bridlington will be another tough game. Bridlington got a valuable point last week against the league leaders Worksop so they will take confidence from that going into this fixture.

On the playing front the lads have worked really hard this week. We have a fully fit squad to choose from and the competition for places is healthy. One thing about this group is we will never go into hiding. I am good in adversity, it makes me a better manager and even more determined and I’ve seen a real focus and determination in the players this week too to put things right. It’s now time to step up and do our talking on the pitch.

‘Trust the process’ is often thrown around and it’s sometimes a throw away statement in football, but it is exactly that for us and we are encourage our supporters to stay with us.

Speaking from experience, it’s a long season and success is never in a straight line. We identify where we are as a group currently and where we need to be in order to be successful.

Thank you for your continued support.
