Clee suffered a 5-0 reverse at Liversedge on Saturday afternoon. It was the first loss of 2022 and brought a fine unbeaten run of 8 to an end.
There were 3 changes from the midweek victory at Brighouse. Ben Middleton was laid low by illness, young Josh Smaller deputised. Dave Smith also preferred Harry Middleton over Liam Dickens. In the final alteration, Scott Vernon came in for Curtis Morrison.
Line-up as follows in a 4-3-3 formation:
Goal: Tom Jackson
Defence: Sam Topliss, Jordon Cooke, Josh Smaller, Loz McKay
Midfield: Josh Venney, Alex Flett (c), Harry Middleton
Attack: Brody Robertson, Scott Vernon, Luke Lofts
Subs: Liam Dickens, Leon Dawson, Curtis Morrison, Jack McMenemy, Ollie Brackenbury (gk)
It was a delightful early Spring day in Cleckheaton. The pitch, having passed a 10am inspection, was heavy in places but perfectly playable.
A bumper away support was in fine voice throughout, anticipating a keenly fought encounter between the 2nd & 3rd placed sides in the division.
Unfortunately, after a bright opening 20 minutes, which included promising moments for both Vernon and Robertson, Liversedge moved into the ascendancy.
The breakthrough came shortly before the half-hour, Lewis Whitham cutting inside before firing an unstoppable shot into the top-corner.

A header by Cooke, parried by the keeper, from a Flett corner offered early hope following the resumption.
Not to be though, as Liversedge produced some excellent play to put the contest well out of reach of the battling Owls. Four more goals followed to underline a dominant performance from the Championship chasing outfit.
At the end, it was great to see the supporters clapping off the players, which was reciprocated. All connected with Clee headed off into the West Yorkshire evening to process the heaviest league defeat for 7 years.

We lost a game of football today… heavily. Well played Liversedge!
I can’t be disappointed though. The bigger picture shows that we have an exciting run-in ahead. And, at the end of the day, we are blessed to return peacefully to our homes this evening.
Finally, a word for our revived Supporters’ Club. Terrific effort to get everything off the ground, it does make such a difference.
See you all in a fortnight.
UP THE OWLS!
