Ex-Mariner takes over at the helm!

The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Nathan Arnold as First-Team Manager with immediate effect.

Nathan joins us from Newark & Sherwood United, who ply their trade in the United Counties League Premier Division North. He leaves the Highwaymen well placed in 5th in the table.

Starting out at his local team Mansfield Town, Nathan enjoyed a prolific career, notching 78 goals in well over 400 senior appearances.

Well-known to fans in North-East Lincolnshire for his successful time at Grimsby Town between 2014 & 2016, he played 75 games for the Mariners.

One of the highlights though would undoubtedly be scoring the only goal in injury time for Lincoln City to dump Ipswich Town out of the FA Cup in January 2017. The run ended at the Quarter-Final stage with a memorable visit to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Nathan took time-out to speak with the official website, ahead of taking charge of the Northern Premier League match at Brighouse Town on Saturday:

“It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks!

Coming off the back of a good start to the season, a 13-game unbeaten run and then having a decision to make. It has been very difficult for me to leave Newark & Sherwood United so early into the process, but I do understand that not many managers get to leave on a high, and that’s what I am able to do.

It is a privilege to be asked to take this football club forward and I couldn’t turn this opportunity down. The Club has good solid foundations, and I am committed to helping the Club fulfil its ambitions.

I want to continue to test myself as a young manager. Cleethorpes are a Club with stability & have ambition, and it is also a special part of the world for me. I believe management is very much about connections with people. That is important for me, and some of my happiest memories were from my time living here for over 2 years.

I am in an industry where football can chew you up and spit you out - I am respectful of that, so I have felt fortunate to have a healthy relationship with my Chairman over the past two seasons, and I look forward to strengthening and sustaining those kinds of relationships at Cleethorpes Town too.

I always want to develop my players and I am looking forward to working with this team. I have watched countless hours of video over the past week, and I am excited to get on the training ground. I want to help improve them as footballers.

Finally, I would like to thank Jason, David, Simon, Darren & Dave for the opportunity. They seem really good, genuine people and I am looking forward to getting to work.

A special mention also to the previous manager Dave Smith, who has done a fantastic job during his 4-year tenure”.

Chairman Jason Ledden offered his thoughts:

“We are delighted to welcome Nathan to the Club as our first-team manager.

We have watched Nathan’s career as a player & his transition to manager, and we believe this is a great fit.

Nathan has the experience, skills and personal drive to take our Club to the next level. His ambition matches ours and I know from the first meeting we had that this will be an excellent partnership.

I believe our supporters will be excited at the appointment and will give Nathan a huge warm welcome to the Club.

Up The Owls!!”
