A second half brace from Louis Grant alongside goals from Daniel Trott and Marc Cooper was enough to see the Owls advance to the next round.
Marcus Newell made five changes from Saturday’s 1-0 win over Garforth Town. Liam Higton started in goal whilst Matthew Kingston, Peter Winn, Alex Flett and Caine Winfarrah all found themselves in the starting 11.
It was nearly the perfect start to the game for the Owls as they went on the offensive immediately. Within 60 seconds Grant test the Winterton keeper but with strong hands he kept out his low drive.
From the throw out Gary Nimmo broke through for the hosts and only had Higton to beat but he blazed the ball over from just outside the box.
Winterton kept up the high intensity and should have scored through Josh Batty but Higton saved well to his right, and Ben Silburn sliced the follow up wide.
The Owls huffed and puffed during an entertaining first half but Winterton’s keeper was in fine form, denying Brody Robertson’s low drive then Grant’s header from close range.
Reece Newell replaced Flett at the start of the second half for the Owls as they looked to mix it up. Within seven minutes it had worked, as Winfarrah was the orchestrator feeding Grant with a divine pass to prod the ball home.
Two quick substitutions were then made for the Owls as Laurence McKay replaced Winn and leading scorer Cooper replaced Kingston.
Five minutes of madness followed as the Owls put the game well beyond doubt with three quick goals. First, Trott raced through and smashed the ball home from 12 yards. Then Grant tapped home for his second of the game in the 70-minute. From the restart the Owls went in search of a fourth and Cooper duly obliged smashing the ball into the top corner sealing the win.
