Match Report
Cleethorpes Town 1-1 North Ferriby United
Linden Homes

A great result for the owls in a very closely fought, high intensity battle against National League Ferriby. The match proved a strong test for Clee which brought the best out of them but also gave something for Ferriby to think about with very few players impressed in front of travelling Lincoln manager Dan Cowley.

The pace of the match was set straight from kick off with a play of nice passing before the ball made it to the left foot of Peter Winn with an excellent cross being whipped into the head of Brody Robertson, begging to be converted but placed just over the bar.

Next chance was one for Ferriby with a nicely weighted through ball into the path of the forward drew out the keeper. A mix up in defence and the ball found its way to the path of the midfielder facing an open goal but failed to pounce as the keeper made a fantastic reflex save just in time for the shot.

Opening the score was Jake Skelton who took advantage of a mishap in defence following a corner. Debate over if it crossed the line as it seemed to be cleared but the linesman signalled that it just crept over.

After a fairly slow response to the goal Clee upped the ante with the first chance being another ball finding its way to Robertson's head but again failing to capitalise. The latter being a penetrating run from Lowe through the middle before laying the ball off to Winfarrah who shot just over the bar.

More chances for the Owls materialised after a corner caused by Oglesby's skill caused trouble for the full back as he he was wrong footed, Jon crossed but nobody in the area caused a safe but sure clearance. After the corner, it was cleared poorly and set up Winfarrah on the volley but the shot forced a simple save for the man between the sticks.

To start the second half was a Ferriby chance with another through ball unlocking the defence which seemed certain for a goal but a heroic tackle from Coleman defused all danger.

Another quiet spell was broken at 65' with a cross from Winfarrah missed the initial target of Taylor but into Oglesby who curled just to distant from the far post. Oglesby then involved again with a lobbed pass over the defence and found the target, Taylor, who firest at the keeper forcing a spill which is then safely contained second time of asking.

After a strong spell from Town, United finally find themselves in an attack with the ball played from left to right just outside the penalty area to Brogen who places him effort just the wrong side of the far post.

Finally at 70' Clee get their much deserved equaliser with a strong run inside from Oglesby who assists with an inside pass to Flett who drives into the bottom left corner, unreachable! A well deserved assist for Oglesby.

The final chance of the match was one for Ferriby to try steal a winner as Conor Robinson ball into Bruce is slashed at just over the bar.

Shortly after the Full Time Whistle was sounded to cap off a very promising performance from Cleethorpes showing a sign of good things to come in the season. A very efficient and professional response to quality competition to a side who have beaten the likes of Grimsby in their pre-season.

MOTM Cleethorpes – Jonboy Oglesby
Rapid, tricky, clinical are words that spring to mind. If he wasn't creating chances and playing with defenders he was testing the keeper himself. An outstanding showcase.

MOTM North Ferriby- Mark Gray
A strong but composed run out for the Leeds man on his first trial game. Only played first half but in that half contained the Clee attacks and looked the most impressive.
