just as the match seemed destined to end as a draw.
Manager Marcus Newell made one enforced change to the starting eleven that won 8-0 at Retford United in midweek with Jack Richardson replacing the suspended skipper Darren Hanslip.
Cleethorpes striker Brody Robertson had an early effort disallowed for offside before a sustained period of Staveley pressure saw Owls goalkeeper Miles Fenty thwart Adam Scatt and then Courtney Hastings with good saves.
Robertson saw his effort well blocked by Staveley goalkeeper Ryan Musselwhite before Peter Winn's long cross from the left hand side landed on top of the goal with many supporters thinking it was a goal.
Robertson wasn't to be denied for long however as he opened the scoring after 27 minutes, taking advantage of a defensive mix up to take the ball around Musselwhite before tapping the ball into the net. The visitors clearly didn't learn from this as the second goal, which arrived just eight minutes later was almost a carbon copy, allowing Robertson to double his tally for the afternoon.
Staveley came out with renewed vigour for the second half and looked much more threatening. The visitors reduced the arrears after 52 minutes as striker Kieran Watson jinked his way past the Clee defence before hitting the ball under Fenty.
Marc Cooper saw his powerful drive from the right hand side pushed away by Musselwhite before Jon Oglesby's long range shot for the Owls sailed well over the bar. Substitute Danny Trott almost made an immediate impact for Clee, powering past the static visiting defence only to be thwarted by Musselwhite who saved with his legs. The goalkeeper was soon in action again, saving well from Richardson's shot before the midfielder hit the rebound high and wide.
Staveley threatened again as Ellis Wall and then Ross Goodwin hit efforts wide. It looked like being a frustrating afternoon for the Owls however as the visitors deservedly drew level after 77 minutes, a scramble inside the penalty area was not cleared allowing Hastings to score from close range.
Fenty had to be at his best with nine minutes remaining, diving high to his left to push away Hastings' effort with his fingertips.
The game seemed set to end with honours even as we entered injury time, until the ball fell at the feet of Mascall who hit a curling long range shot straight into the top corner, sparking great scenes amongst the home supporters and giving the Owls their third win in eight days in the league.
Victory has moved the Owls upto 8th place in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division table ahead of two difficult looking away games this week, firstly at Maltby Main on Wednesday evening (7.45pm kick off) before a trip to Thackley on Saturday (3pm). Confidence within the squad is high though and the team will hope to keep their good run going.
