Cleethorpes town 2 - 1 Appleby Frodingham
Cleethorpes Town got back on track with a 2-1 home win over Appleby Frodingham on Saturday
The home side made 3 changes for the game - Buckthorp, Debnam; Cawley all took their places in the starting line up
Cleethorpes didn’t take long to create a chance, Oglesby raced away in the first five minutes but unfortunately saw his effort saved by Goalkeeper Samir Own.
Andy Liddle had made changes to the first XI to stop the team leaking goals. However they did just that, as the visitors drew first blood through Oliver Bradbury’s volley
Cleethorpes responded well, Tim Lowe put in a good ball toward Marc Cooper, but the striker’s control left a lot to be desired and he was unable to connect as the chance went begging
The Owls did well with set pieces and put the defence under pressure. The opposing goalkeeper was unable to hold on to a floated cross from the corner, and had to parry Lawrence Heward’s resultant shot.
The home side eventually equalised through Lee Stevenson who raced clear of the defence and calmly slotted home to level the scores
Appleby almost responded immediately but Bradbury’s shot was well saved by Drury
Tactical changes by Cleethorpes lead to their second goal of the game. Some Clever play from the back and through the midfield opened up the opposition, and allowed Stevenson to score again
The second half started well for the visitors, Clee ‘Keeper Drury was first into action pulling off a magnificent save low down to deny Bradbury again
At the other end Cleethorpes created a good chance, Lee Stephenson shot wide after a ball from Jack Debnam was flicked on by Cooper
The Owls then had a chance cleared off the line when Oglesby’s corner threatened the opposition goal
Striker Lee Stevenson had a great game, being on the end of numerous chances for Andy Liddle’s team.
Cleethorpes were up for the game in the second half, with chances being created by players all over the park. Jason Flint was next to have a go, but his curing shot was cruelly denied by the woodwork
The Owls continued to create chances but were wasteful and couldn’t find a way through to seal the game.
Appleby Frodingham goalkeeper Samir Own was the busier of the two keepers in the game. He was again called into action in the closing stages to deny Ricky Belding’s stinging shot.
The game finished 2-1, The Owls back to winning ways, and a point behind Louth in 4th
