OWLS HEAD NORTH FOR MEMORIAL MATCH

Saturday afternoon will see South Shields & Cleethorpes Town meet for a fourth time to compete for the Jak Fada Memorial Trophy.

As fans will know, young Jak was a Mariners' supporter who tragically passed away in 2017. We are honoured to travel to be part of this occasion and many thanks to everyone who has helped to facilitate the fixture. Hopefully, Jak's family and friends will take comfort from seeing the football community come together to remember & celebrate Jak's life.

On the field, South Shields lead previous encounters 2-1. Obviously, everyone recalls the most famous meeting, when the Mariners proved far too strong for the Owls on the day back in May 2017. It finished 4-0 in the FA Vase final at Wembley. Clee were also defeated in an NPL League Cup clash at Bradley, this time 2-0.

However, we turned in a superb pre-season performance last August, winning a friendly 4-2. Captain Alex Flett, a brace from Danny North and Josh Batty were the goalscorers in a fine display of attacking football.

Both outfits will be keen to bounce back from reverses last time out. Shields went down 2-0 against a strong Sunderland side, whilst the Owls suffered an 8-0 loss to neighbours Grimsby Town. It certainly was not the best outcome for us - defender Paul Walker also spaces a spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

So, we are all set for tomorrow. For fans travelling by executive coach, please be at Linden ready for a 10am departure. Just had a look at the bookings and there is still room available for anyone wanting to enjoy a great day out - Adults £20 and Kids £10. Contact us to reserve your spot!

For anyone not going, we will have our usual twitter service from 2pm.
