SEASIDERS UNDER 18s CHAMPIONS AGAIN

Pride of place for the season belongs to the Seasiders Under 18s who finished as Western Counties Floodlight Youth League Premier Division Champions for the second year running. Like last season it was another nail biting end to the season with the Seasiders youngsters again clinching the title in the last match of the season, with a 2-1 at Weston-super-Mare.

But after a mid-season slump culminating in a 5-0 home defeat by Bishops Lydeard, any chances of winning the championship seemed to have all but disappeared with the Seasiders 9 points adrift of unbeaten leaders Brislington.

The response though was remarkable. Lifted by the management team of Morgan Davies, Jason Smith and Matty Gregory and the crucial signing of central defender Ethan Rosenior from Portishead, the team won their last 7 games including a 4-0, 3-0 double against Brislington.

During the run they conceded only 2 goals and scored 22, led by leading scorers Jack Richards with 10 goals including two hat-tricks and Joe Smith who scored in all 7 games.

Like last season the championship was won with the best defence in the league led by skipper Mason Ball who featured in every game and collected the trophy from Seasiders Chairman Paul Davis in a presentation at the North Somerset Community Hand Stadium to recognise the team’s achievements.

Coach Jason Smith said, “It has been a fantastic two seasons enjoyed by everyone involved.”
