On Wednesday the Seasiders host what is likely to be a young Yeovil Town side in the Somerset Premier Cup Second Round. Both sides had narrow victories in the First Round, the Seasiders winning 1-0 against Shepton Mallet and Yeovil winning 8-7 on penalties at Keynsham Town after a 3-3 draw.
Yeovil have won the Premier Cup in its various forms 25 times and Clevedon are 4 times winners including 3 in 4 years between 1998 and 2002.
The last game between the sides was a Somerset Premier Cup First Round tie in 2016/17 when Clevedon won 1-0 at Yeovil with a Jake Harris goal. The last home game was 5 years before that in 2011/12 and another 1-0 win for the Seasiders in the Third Round courtesy of an Ashley Kington goal.
In fact, Clevedon have the better record in the nine ties between the sides in the Premier Cup having won 5 to Yeovil’s 4.
Calling this season’s tie is a bit of an unknown quantity with both teams sitting on top of their respective leagues, so will the Premier Cup prove to be a distraction? Whatever, get down to the Everyone Active Hand Stadium on Wednesday for a 7-30 kick off to find out. Due to the weather forecast there will be a precautionary pitch inspection so watch out for updates on social media.
Finally as a bonus the Seasiders will be giving home fans the chance to see their pink and purple away kit in action for this game.
