Blue Team:
On a glorious, sunny morning the Blues enjoyed a successful day winning all of our 3 matches and taking the maximum 9 points.
For the first time this season we managed to combine our passing game with some excellent finishing, whilst keeping 3 clean sheets with some great shot-stopping from Nigel
Clarke, particularly against Peasedown.
Results:
Peasedown W 2-0 ( Fry & Micciche)
Abbeymead W1-0 ( Condon)
Clevedon Yellows W1-0 ( Steadman)
( Congratulations to Ralph the Yellows goalkeeper who made some outstanding saves in this game... Dave Cooper still cannot believe that he managed to keep his shot out of the net, as the Yellows made life as difficult as possible for us)
It was particularly pleasing to see the goals shared around with good passing moves finished off by Angelo and Pete Condon , a poachers goal from Jon Fry and a thumping free kick from Mark Steadman.
The other team members Dickie Moore, Mark Plinston and Dave Cooper also put in great performances to ensure we enjoyed such a successful day ..
We now enter the final round of the Winter competition, top of the league on goal difference from the Rebels and 2 points ahead of Weston, both of whom we play in the final round. If will be an exciting finish..
We would like to thank all the team for their effort, attitude and commitment again yesterday, particularly bearing in mind how hot the weather was , combined with each match being extended to 30 minutes for this round . Well done to all ???
David & Angelo
Yellow Team:
Although results didn't go our way today, our Yellow team played some neat approach play in attack and in general defended well.
Match 1 v Abbeymead 0-2
Abbey scored early in 1st half but then we took control for the remainder of the half. They made 2 subs at half-time which swung back momentum to them (Tony being their key player in 2nd half).
Match 2 v Peasedown 0-3
Ralph in goal made several outstanding saves, inc. a penalty save! They were too strong for us and Jack (Somerset 65s player) scored 2 scorchers. They scored their 3rd with the last kick of the game.
Match 3 v Clevedon Blue 0-1
We played some of our best football v our Blue team but lacked decisive finishes. Ralph continued his rich vein of form and we were unlucky to concede the only goal.
Much credit to our squad for never letting their heads drop and continuing to play good football:
Ralph, Ivor (Capt with NLS), Rich R, Chris, Gary, Jon, Steve, Rich O.
[NLS = Natural Leadership Skills]
Well done to our Blue team.
Thanks to everyone for their participation and support.
Here's to our final round and thereafter the Summer season.
Seasiders!
