Another superb showing by Clevedon Town Walking Football Women’s team yesterday, travelling to Street for the Somerset FA Walking Football Women’s Festival. A late injury reduced the side to only 5 players. The friendly nature of the tournament saw other teams lending the Seasiders a guest player to allow them to field the full 6 a side.
Undaunted by the setback, with spirits still high, the team produced an excellent set of results despite the heat and lack of substitutes.
A 2-0 win over Exeter with goals from Sarah Green and our guest player was followed by a Maria Rossell strike to beat Winscombe 2nd 1-0. Then a last minute goal saw a 0-1 reverse to Winscombe 1st.
Next up a good performance versus Cheddar but denied goals by the opposition keeper, 0-0. A brilliant attacking display earned a 3-0 victory over Somer Valley, 2 goals by our guest player alongside Sarah Green’s finish.
Then 0-0 with our neighbours Portishead Town before fatigue finally caught up with Clevedon for a late, late goal by Braunton saw us beaten 0-1.
A final tally of 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 narrow defeats was a fantastic return in the circumstances. 5 clean sheets and just 2 goals conceded is a testament to keeper Steva Fesenko and the defending of the team as a whole. Great resilience, creativity and teamwork Seasiders!
Below, Clevedon take a well earned breather. Clockwise from front left: Klara Rock, Steva Fesenko, Sam Hibbs, Maria Rossell and Sarah Green.
