Cleve are delighted to announce that Ben Roberts will be the new Senior Head Coach for the 2020/2021 season

Ben is a highly dedicated and motivated individual that gained promotion with the Cleve 1st XV in 2014/15 season. A very talented fly-half, Ben joined Cleve from having been captain of Clifton RFC. Roberts has played senior rugby for Keynsham and Walcot and represented Somerset in the 2013 County Championship. Operating primarily as a fly half, but Ben has also played as a full back, centre and wing.

Ben is a RFU level 2 qualified coach, with experience of coaching junior teams in Somerset. His job entails developing and mentoring junior rugby coaches and there is great excitement surrounding his arrival at the Hayfields.

Roberts said “ Coaching has always been an ambition of mine and I feel that having been on the receiving end of different coaching styles, I have a good understanding of my own personal philosophies of have to motivate and get the best out of a team”

With regards to the appointment Ben added: “I am very much looking forward to the challenge ahead and feel that I am at a good point in my life where I can commit the time and effort into helping the club progress”

Everyone at the club would like to welcome Ben on his return to Cleve. The search for a Forwards Coach to support him has begun, and together they will have a young talented squad at their disposal. We have an exciting opportunity to begin a new project and challenge ourselves to return to the league we were in when Ben was a player.
