Clock Face Miners climbed to the top of the NCL Division 2 table with an emphatic 46-0 home win against Dewsbury Celtic.
Clock were on the scoresheet within three minutes when Shaun Costello barged over from close range. Moments later, Luke Leyden broke from halfway, passed inside to Karle Hunt who raced in under the sticks. Clock maintained their attacking momentum and scored again through Scott Thompson who stepped his way through the Celtic defence.
Celtic upped their effort in defence, but this was undone when a monster of a kick by Jack Highcock was fumbled by the Celtic fullback. The loose ball was collected by Hunt who went over for his second. Minutes later and Costello launched a huge kick, he chipped ahead, Lewis Geraghty then volleyed the ball to the supporting Michael Carney who scored under the sticks giving Clock a 30-0 half time lead.
Four minutes into the second half and Clock were in again when Jack Highcock showed neat footwork to score by the sticks. Celtic were throwing everything at Clock to get back into the game, but Clockâs defence held firm. A loose Celtic pass was collected by Luke Forber who outpaced the Celtic defence to score under the sticks. Forber then scored his second with an almost repeat of the first try. Highcock amassed an impressive 18 points with a try and seven conversions.
