The 2nds had a frustrating day at Wadworth. We were asked to bat first and from the first over it was clear the Wadworth track was going to be a real pleasure to bat on. 4 balls would scuttle through at ankle height and then one would pop. Joy. The pitch suited their dibbly dobbly bowlers who plagued us with a barrage of grenades and land mines. We managed to make it to 25-0 but then the innings became a bit like that opening half hour on the beach in Saving Private Ryan. In between the grenades and land mines several batsmen also succumbed to horrific mustard gas attacks and managed to send full tosses straight to fielders. We took some heavy losses and finished on a paltry 63 all out with only Roy (29) offering any real resistance.
We then stopped for tea. Home made quiche, sausage rolls and trifle. An early front runner for TOTY.
We genuinely believed we could bowl Wadworth out for less and set out in a positive mood. Sure enough we were all over them in the early stages. 12-3 off 12 overs. Great start. They were then shotless and agonisingly played and missed time and time again as they reached 21-3/off 21 overs. But that was our moment and things didn't go our way there after, as they reached 64-4. Hayden 6-2 off 7 overs and Simon 11-1 off 12 overs, were both excellent. So 2 defeats to start the season but we've batted 1st on two challenging wickets so hopefully we can take the positives into the next games and build from there. UTP x
