Josh Sanderson repays faith in junior investment with unbeaten 92.

Sherwood Colliery v Clumber Park 2nd XI.

Right then, bank holiday weekend part 2 for the 2s saw us travel to Sherwood. We were met by a slightly damp and green looking wicket. I obviously lost the toss but to my utter surprise Sherwood elected bat.
Ben Tomlinson and Simon Dean opened the bowling and both bowled with great control and after 12 overs Sherwood were restricted to 31/0. Another youngster replaced Ben T and Zac Berridge (Louise Berridge) again bowled well but without success. Simon made the breakthrough which brought Sherwood’s Australian to the crease. Lee Rogers (from Langwith) replaced Simon but the Aussie decided he could hit every ball to the boundary. We dropped him a couple of times but when we did take a catch, the standing umpire was unsure it carried to James Davies behind the stumps, umpires conferred but square leg decided he didn’t see it (what was he watching I ask myself). Josh bowled well without luck, I will get back to Josh later. After 36 overs Sherwood were 167/1 and looking towards a huge score Richard Tomlinson made the breakthrough and Mark Dean quickly followed with another. In the last 10 overs Clumber took 8 wickets to give us full bowling points.
Ben Tomlinson 10 2 35 3
Simon Dean 10 3 23 1
Zac Berridge 5 0 22 0
Lee Rogers 6 0 51 0
Josh Sanderson 5 0 19 0
Rich Tomlinson 3 0 30 1
Mark Dean 7 0 42 4
Sherwood finished on 227/9 but should have got nearer 280. We fought back very well.
Tea = ok but only £33 ( we will charge Sherwood the same.
I opened up with Alex Tomlinson but we were soon back in the hutch. Josh Sanderson (John Sanderson) joined James Davis and they pushed the score up to 44 when James was bowled. Lee Rogers, Rich T and Ben T came and went, Lee in bizarre circumstances by volleying the ball onto his stumps. Mark Dean, batting at 8 joined Josh with the score on 94/6 in the 26th over. However Josh batted magnificently ably support by Mark, Josh finishing on 92no and Mark 31no. Clumber finished on 181/6 to give us 10 well earned points.

I would just like to add what an innings it was from Josh and remember he is 14 years old.
He drove, pulled, clipped and defended each ball on its merit. At no stage did he panic, get flustered or carried away.
I am pretty sure this young man has a big future and remember he is 14 playing against and with seasoned cricketers.
As Brian Clough would have said

WELL DONE YOUNG MAN.
