Clumber 2s travelled to Goosedale Lane to face Papplewick and Linby 3s. We were a little depleted as Simba had picked up an injury mid week. After much chasing about another injured sole stepped up to help out, first thank you to Nick Davies.
The weather was set fair and the track looked a belter, luckily I won the toss and I elected to bat. I opened up with Ben Bedford and we quickly set about the P&L bowlers, in the 17 over Ben had rush of blood and aaa caught 71/1. James Davies came to the crease but quickly fell. Josh John Sanderson joined me and batted nicely and we took the score up to 113/3 in the 31st over. Roy Pearson joined me and we started playing a few more shots, Roy falling for 31 with the score on 203 in the 41st over. The batting order was changed and Jasper Dennison was promoted in front of Tim Beer and Richard Tomlinson so thanks Tim and Rich. Well this young man has come on leaps and bounds, smashing to bowling to all parts scoring 31no off 13 balls, I eventually fell and Ben Tomlinson came in to heave a couple, Clumber finishing on 260/5.
Tea was a decent spread but about 3/4 mile from the pitch.
Ben T and Jasper opened the bowling, Ben bowling with good swing and Jasper with some real pace. Jasper made the breakthrough and followed up with a second wicket. However we decided to keep P&L in the game by dropping 2 dollies and a harder chance. Harry Rachel Beer came into the attack but was not happy with his bowling but I kept him going. Tim had a go but his calf failed again. I then realised I was a little short of bowling, however James Davis bowled me 7 well controlled overs to keep the scoring down. Harry continued to whirl away and got the breakthrough followed by a 2nd. Rich and Josh had a go without success but both bowled well. With 8 overs to go Jasper and Ben T came back into the attack and Ben grabbed 2 late wickets, P&L finishing on 208/6.
Jasper 10 0 44 2
Ben T 10 1 28 2
Tim B 1 0 3 0
Harry 10 2 50 2
Jimmy 7 1 37 0
Rich T 5 1 20 0
Josh 3 0 16 0
1 special fielding moment
Jasper chasing a ball all the way to the boundary went through a wire fence, went flying and ended up in a heap in brambles and nettles. Jasper came out with a badly scratched arm and at least 200 nettle stings. Ouch!
Today we displayed how we can play cricket, and today is the start of our season.
We go again Monday
