CLYDE THISTLE suffered a heavy defeat to a strong and impressive Thorn side at Ardenconnel.

The Rhu Jags went into the game with confidence having taken four points from their previous PJDYFL top tier fixtures against Broomhill and Giffnock, but Thorn were a step up in quality and showed that throughout this game.

From front to back the visitors competed for every loose ball, were composed in possession and took their chances, but Thistle coach Chris Hedley believes his players will learn a lot from their third match of the campaign.

He said: “You have to take your hat off to Thorn as they are a very good side and on top of the good football they play they have a desire to win every tackle.

"But we had a quick chat to our boys after the game and told them to keep their chins up. They had been playing very well going into the game and, while we were disappointed to lose heavily, we will look forward to our next league fixture and try to get back to winning ways.

“As a coach you always hope the players learn from a defeat and I think we will learn a lot from this fixture.

“Thorn worked hard on and off the ball, they tackled aggressively and they were good in possession and always looked to find a teammate, even when they were under pressure.

“These are all things we can work on and be better at and we will try to focus on these aspects in the weeks ahead.

“As I said, we know it was a disappointing morning but we won’t dwell on this result and we look forward to a couple of good training sessions this week.”
