Coalville Record A Statement Win At Stratford
In the Southern League Central's only game of the night, Coalville ran out 2-0 winners at third place Stratford Town thanks to goals from Steve Towers & Andrew Wright.
It was a clash between two of the surprise play-off contenders at the Arden Garages Stadium and Coalville started the game bright on a heavy surface.
It took ten minutes for the Ravens to go close as Joe Doyle-Charles took aim from twenty yards out only to have his shot tipped onto the post by Stratford keeper Ross Etheridge.
Tim Berridge was then inches away from connecting with a Kieran Fenton cross at the back post as Coalville pushed for the opener. Luke Shaw & Kairo Mitchell then both appealed for penalties with the second one looking like a foul but the referee waved away the protests.
As expected the hosts grew into the game and had their best spell in the final fifteen minutes of the first half. It took a fine Richard Walton save to keep the scores level as he acrobatically tipped Albi Skendi’s close range shot over the bar.

The second half saw the game turn into a real battle as the pitch continued to cut up with both teams working extremely hard to cancel each other out.
That was until the Ravens captain Steve Towers chested the ball down and hit a brilliant half volley into the top corner on the hour mark to give Coalville the lead.
With the goal advantage they didn’t stop there and continued to press the Stratford backline into mistakes and fouls, this resulted in former Coalville player Jamie McAteer picking up two yellow cards, his second in the 77th minute.
Tom McGlinchey then slipped in Andrew Wright who drove into the box and finished superbly from a tight angle for his 11th league goal of the season. There was time in the final minute for more drama as Stratford’s other centre back Jordan Williams was also sent off for a second bookable offence after he dragged down Kyle Perry.
A flowing move in added time involving Fenton, Wright & McGlinchey created an opening for Tolani Omotola but he poked a shot wide and the game finished 2-0 to Coalville with them taking an important three points back to Leicestershire.
