As December hits and Coalville were 4th in the league going into this important fixture against a tough Leicester City Ladies team. This fixture could move Coalville Town up to 3rd position if they win and other results go their way.
Leon and Dave opted to stay with the 3-5-2 formation in which defeated Braunstone the week before. Coalville started quickly out of the blocks with some fantastic movement and passing from the front two Emma and Alex, however this ended with unfortunate disappointment and fantastic saves from the Leicester City Ladies keeper.
It was very windy on this Sunday afternoon and this didn’t help the flow of the game, the ball was played in the air at times, however Coalville did try to get the ball down to play football as soon as they could. The breaklock was broken on the 15 minute mark when Alex was through on goal to make it 0-1 to Coalville Town Ladies.
With the momentum, Coalville continued to grow into the game with the midfield really pushing on into the opponents half; this resulted in two quick succession of goals from Clair and Alex with her second of the game. The fantastic play from the Coalville Town Ladies continued with Emma Smith getting the 4th just before half time.
Half Time – Leicester City Ladies Fosse 0-4 Coalville Town Ladies FC
The message to the players at half time was keep playing positively and look to go forward when possible.
As the second half started, Coalville’s performance seemed to have dipped which is the what not unusual when a team is 0-4 up at half time. Siouxsie had to come rushing out of her goal numerous times throughout the second half which as usual was performed at the highest standard.
Once Coalville got into the second half, they managed to catch Leicester City Ladies on the counter attack which surprisingly Louise ran from defence after looking at the bench for approval to score from a fantastic team goal after hitting the post first.
0-5 to Coalville, it looked plain sailing, however credit to the opponents they never gave up and got the goal they deserved which made it 1-5. Lastly the best goal of the day was around 10 minutes before the final whistle with Clair receiving the ball in the midfield and she played a through ball to Emma which she slotted the ball into the right hand side of the goal. Fantastic composure.
Leon and Dave said. “ Fantastic team performance today from our girls and we are over the moon to be in the position we are in the league and it has been thoroughly deserved, with 11 games left there is still a long way to go”
