Coalville kicked off knowing this would be a very difficult game against a physical Beaumont Town Ladies, who like last week’s opponents, liked to play direct football.
The game started evenly before Coalville were awarded a free kick near the touchline in the 3rd minute. Neve McDermott played it short to Evie Brooks who crossed to the far post but the Beaumont defender managed to beat the inrushing Siobhan Mullen to head it away
Coalville were trying to put the pressure on Beaumont and had not allowed them to get started. Evie Brooks then tried a speculative shot from 30 odd yards which just sailed past the post.
The ball was spending most of the time in the middle third of the pitch with neither side able to string many passes together. The Coalville defence of Ele Kingsbury-Smith, Sophie Chapman and Amber Hylton were denying the Beaumont attackers any time on the ball and leaving Lucy Cartwright in goal just to deal with the occasional back pass.
Coalville were starting to up the pressure and had 3 corners in quick succession before another long range effort from Brooks landed on the roof of the net.
A great through ball from Ceare Toal found Clair Dolman in the box but her shot was saved by the Beaumont keeper. Brooks had another effort which again landed on the roof of the net
Coalville were the dominant side in the first half and should have been 1-0 up after a cross into the Beaumont box was missed by the keeper and Siobhan Mullen had the chance to score but her shot was too weak and cleared by the defender.
Such was Coalville’s dominance that Beaumont made changes at half time and won a free kick on the edge of the box which Coalville defended well.
The game was opening up and becoming very end to end. Lucy Cartwright made her first real save in the game on 55 minutes when she had to be quick to save at the feet of the Beaumont forward.
A corner to Coalville came to nothing but they found themselves stretched when Beaumont broke away and the resulting shot missing the goal by inches.
Coalville made a change bringing on Rachel Coote for Ceara Toal which allowed the dangerous Brooks to move forward. Coote immediately with a sublime pass that found Brooks who raced into the box but just as she was about to shoot the Beaumont captain with a great tackle and cleared the danger. The resulting corner found Dolman but her tame header was easily caught by the keeper.
Beaumont immediately counter attacked and Cartwright had to be quick off her line to thwart the attempt.
Another great through ball from Coote found Brooks again and her cross into the box found Dolman but her shot was saved at the near post by the keeper.
The deadlock was broken on 85 minutes when a Beaumont ball over the top was missed by Coalville allowing Kayleigh Needham to slot the ball past Cartwright.
From the restart Coalville lost the ball and Beaumont fed the ball to Carmelina Colangelo to slot the ball under Cartwright to make it 2-0.
A Disappointing end to a game in which Coalville were the dominant team for 80 minutes but didn’t take their chances.
