Ladies well beaten by Derby County Academy

From the kick-off Derby County Academy took control of the game and were 1-0 up after a couple of minutes when the Derby winger got to the by-line and crossed the ball across the face of the goal for the Isabelle Mauro to tap home.

Coalville were having to soak up a lot pressure with Derby playing lots of pass and goes and using the width well giving both Coalville fullbacks Rachel Coote and Ele Kingsbury Smith a torrid time.

It took Coalville 20 minutes before they created their first chance. Keeper Kate Page with a great kick to Siobhan Mullen on the left who drove on into the Derby box forcing a good tackle from the Derby defender. The resulting corner was put just wide by Clair Dolman.

Coalville were having to deal with a lot of pressure from Derby, especially from the right winger, and were struggling to get a foot in the game with the defence and keeper Kate seeing most of the ball.

On a rare opportunity Kingsbury Smith drove forward into the Derby half and had a ambitious shot at goal from some 40yards which the Derby keeper did brilliantly to palm away from the top corner when it looked like it would go in.

Another Derby attack was only cleared as far Anya Bourne who shot into the far corner of the goal to make it 2-0 to Derby on the stroke of half-time.

The second half continued in the same vein with Derby playing the better football and 20 minutes in Bourne scored her 2nd of the game. Coalville’s chances were few and far between with Kingsbury Smith forcing a corner after a run from her own half but it was well defended.

Coalville made changes with Jess Vale, Zoe Canning and Alex Wawrzycka replacing Ceara Toal, Clair Dolman and Lizzy Jackson but there was insufficient time for them to make a difference and Derby soon made it four through Juliet Hilton.

A disappointing day for Coalville who never really got going against a well drilled Derby side.
