Cobham Football Club are excited to announce they have been awarded a £250,000 grant from Elmbridge Borough Council towards the proposed 3G artificial pitch project.
The grant is part of the local Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding distributed by the Cobham & Downside, Oxshottt & Stoke D’Abernon Local Spending Board.
Newly elected local Councillor Alistair Mann said “I was pleased to support, and promote, this exciting and imaginative bid from Cobham FC to develop their facilities close to the centre - and at the heart - of our local community. There are many calls on the CIL funds, and not all bids get all (or any) of the funds they request; but this is precisely the sort of project CIL funding is designed for. Everyone in Cobham should be proudly grateful for the efforts of the team at Cobham FC to promote local football as a community activity.”
The club are planning to replace their grass stadia pitch with a 3G artificial surface to enable the club to support its growing its junior and youth section, establish specific women and girls’ sessions and offer recreational football for older age groups. The facility will also provide a much-needed training venue for other local teams, schools and the wider community.
Dave Tippetts, Chairman of Cobham FC added, “It is great to get the support and receive such a significant amount of funding from our local council towards this project. This grant will now be a catalyst for further funding making this project a reality.”
The club are also working with the Football Foundation and the Surrey FA to develop an application to their large grants scheme and hope to have all funding in place by June 2022.
In addition to this the club will also be looking to raise corporate and private donations.
