After a tense 90 minutes which finished 0 - 0 it was down to the dreaded spot kicks to separate the sides

Nothing quite like a penalty shoot out right! Well that’s what Cobham FC’s traveling supporters got to witness last night in the U23 John Bennett Development League Cup Final of the Combined Counties League. The outcome saw seven penalties taken by both sides and Cobham U23’s coming out on top and crowned Cup Final Winners 2018-19.

Both Cobham and opponents Sutton Common Rovers put on a highly contested match from start to finish. Cobham having the better of the first half and SCR applying the pressure, especially in the last 20 minutes of the second half. After 90 minutes and finishing 0-0 it was time for penalties and with both sides converting three of their five penalties it went into sudden death. Come the time come the hero, and after SCR missed their seventh penalty it came to Cobham’s Jake Baynton to keep his cool and slot home the winning penalty.

Cobham’s goalkeeper Matt Willett once again delivered an outstanding performance and was quite rightly presented with the Man of the Match award by Combined Counties League officials.

Well done Cobham U23’s for a great first season, who also finished Runners Up in the League.
