Match report

Colony Park Juniors lost their latest McBookie.com Superleague match to Aberdeen side Hermes at rainy and windswept Uniconn Park.

The first meaningful attack in the match lead to a Hermes corner which the Colony Park defence cleared. After 10 minutes Roddie made an strong run on the left cutting into the box and shooting just wide of the Hermes goal. Hermes hit back immediately and only a brilliant save by Farquhar prevented them opening the scoring. Colony Park won their first corner on 15 minutes when Roddie’s shot was deflected. However the Hermes defence cleared the corner and drove to the other end opening the scoring with a goal on 16 minutes. Two minutes later Colony had another corner which was well cleared with Hermes hitting Colony on the break. Again. Farquhar was called onto make a superb save, However he was powerless in the 20th minute when Hermes added to their lead heading unchallenged at a corner making it two nil. Strachan make a great run at the Hermes defence five minutes later before passing the ball to the Durno whose shot was just wide of the post. On 29 minutes Hermes were awarded a penalty. Yet again Farquhar came to the rescue with a great penalty save. However the Colony defence was breached two minutes later when Farquhar had no chance from the Hermes forward running through on goal and placing the ball into the net making it 3-0 to the home side. Colony hit back with a shot from Strachan which was saved and then a goal from Chris NESS who finished off a good move. The goal galvanised the Inverurie side and they had their best period of play in the match.Eventually this lead to a second goal when a slick pass from Durno found Calvin RODDIE and from twenty yards he hit a great shot into the corner of the net, almost on the stroke of half time, making it 3-2 to Hermes at the interval.

Five minutes into the second half, Hermes had a corner which again saw excellent goalkeeping from Farquhar as he punched out the Hermes cross under considerable pressure from the home team forwards. Hermes now started to have foothold in the game with three further opportunities to score before the hour mark, in particular a header from close range which went just wide of the post. Strachan and McKay came back with goal attempts with the former’s shot wide and the latter’s shot saved. Hermes added to their lead in 73 minutes when they scored from close range to give them a 4-2 lead. Colony Park made two substitutions after the goal when Andy Graham replaced his brother Ally and Jordan Clark replaced Chris Ness. Hermes continued to remain on top forcing two corners in quick succession before they hit the bar with a shot from distance. Colony Park were awarded a free kick just outside the Hermes box with around five minutes left. Morrison, who scored directly from a free kick in the last match against Culter, again stepped up and struck the shot well on target but straight at the Hermes keeper who saved well. Blair Bowie then replaced Stuart McKay who had worked hard up front. There were no more chances for either team and the match ended with a Hermes 4-2 win.

Colony Park Juniors dropped to third in the North Region McBookie.com Superleague behind Dyce Juniors and league leaders Stonehaven
