Match report

The heavy surface at Lister Park looked like it would not be conducive to allowing good football to be played, but Colony Park soon dispelled this theory, passing the ball on the ground, and keeping possession well.

Both teams were looking for the opener, but around the ten-minute mark, Colony looked to be dominating the match and creating the better chances, with a Kev Bonarius shot going just past, and a Stuart McKay header equally close.

The pressure by the away side finally brought a result. Marc Young drove into the box and squared the ball for Greg Dorrat to crash it into the net from close range for the opening goal.

Colony were hungry for a second, and Bonarius and Jack Strachan were both just off target. The away side were hoping to add to the score before half-time, and got the boost they deserved in the 43rd minute.

Jack Strachan left two City defenders in his wake, and his powerful shot from the right of the box was parried by the keeper, but the ever alert Dorrat was on hand to prod the ball over the line to give the visitors a score which was well deserved.

Half Time: Inverness City 0-2 Colony Park
The second half started the way that the first had ended with all the traffic going in the direction of the City goal. Dorrat had the ball in the net again, but, to the frustration of the visitors, the referee had not played advantage, and awarded Colony a free kick for a foul.

However, the goal was only delayed. Steve Morrison, one again drove forward, exchanged passes with Stuart McKay who slipped the ball to Greg Dorrat, and his shot from the edge of the box found the bottom corner for his hat-trick in 55 minutes.

The visitors seemed to ease off, and City started to press. Although the Colony defence seemed to deal with whatever was thrown at them, City did come close when a shot hit the outside of Gray’s near post, and went out for a goal kick.

This was the wake-up call that Colony needed, and they once again put pressure on City.

Marc Young again ran at the City defence, and squared the ball to Dorrat, who once again beat the Inverness keeper from just inside the box.

Minutes later, Dorrat tried to be the provider, and squared a ball to McKay, but his shot went over the bar.

Jamie Lind replaced McKay, Jordan Clark replaced Bonarius and Andreas Mitchell replaced goal hero Dorrat, as Colony played out the match for a much needed victory.

Full Time: Inverness City 0-4 Colony Park

Although Greg Dorrat grabbed the headlines with his four goal haul, this was a complete team performance, delivered under the pressure of being a “must win” game, and with several players unavailable. There were individuals who ran and fought until they had no energy left, and the quality of passing on a difficult surface and the desire to succeed was a credit to all involved. Two “clean sheets” in a row must also be applauded, considering how many goals have been conceded this season. Hopefully, this performance can be used as springboard to better things.
