Full weeks review following games vs Newport, Wolves, Burnley and Prestatyn Town FC.

U8s - Stephen Boyes

Absolute fantastic experience for the young nomads team today against Newport and Wolves at their amazing training facilities. The boys were ruthless in front of goal and hit the net double figures in  there 4 x 20 minute games.

The boys shown great team work and combination play to move the ball effortlessly around the quarter pitch games. We utilised the space, attacked and defended as a team and it was joy to see the boys work on what they have been doing at the quay 3G come into fruition in a game scenario.

We would like to say a massive thank Taylors parents for organising the day and the boys were treated to a tour of the modern professional facilities including the gym, changing room and pitches that the wolves 1st team train on.

Our man of the match goes to Will Prestidge who put on a display of skill and constant energy. Will made a huge impact in his debut game for the team and integrated seamlessly.

The boys played Burnley Saturday afternoon in what was a great day for it! The boys started off strong and were ruthless against their opponents creating chances and scoring goals for fun. It’s clear to see that individually our Nomads are talented and can hurt teams. We saw again a wonderful free kick, some great passing leading to goals at a great intensity.
If I have anything to say needed improvement is just knowing when to release the ball. Some players will hold on too long, but this will change through game time and repetition. When the boys realised they were better then the opposition they fell away from the passing game and wanted to just score goals which long term we want to move away especially when we come against opposition where we can’t just run through and need to work as a team and pass and move. But fantastic display from the lads today! Well done boys!

On Monday A select group of boys were treated to a high ability festival at Finch Farm against some tough opponents across the North West of England

It was the boys very 1st attempt in a 7v7 format and played in a 231 shape, at first the size of the pitch and the positioning was alien to them in the 1st game and took a pretty convincing beating against the eventual winners of the festival.

After this though the boys re-adjusted to the extra space available and began to make bigger passes into dangerous areas and gained confidence in their 1v1 battles.

As we played each performance the score lines and most importantly the performances improved.

Game 1 - L
Game 2 - L by one goal
Game 3 - Draw
Game 4 - comfortable win

As a coach it was great to see the determination and willing to improve in every game with every player improving in their performance after learning from their previous mistakes.

Man of the Match - Will Prestidge For the second time this weekend he has consistently put a display of strength and excellence in front of goal. Will quickly learned today that by limiting his touches, passing and then moving he can create a vast amount for himself to be expressive in. Will alsonscored by far the best goal of the evening which rocketed under the crossbar and bounced into the net from a fair distance out whilst he wasn’t being pressed.

U9s - Jason Bell Head Coach

The u9s travelled to Wolves Training Ground on friday to play Wolves and Newport County in a mini tournament. It was a brilliant experience for the boys playing on their indoor 3G pitches. The atmosphere was great.

The boys started off playing Wolves and it was a great game end to end, the Nomads moved the ball well and worked hard off the ball they were defensively strong and JJ done well to keep them out, the game ended in a draw.

Second game v Newport was quite one sided to us with the boys scoring a few well taken individual goals and some well worked team goals, they switched the ball well when challenged to find the spare player which they did time and time again. Really good team performance.

Third game v Wolves was a good test, Wolves started off well and soon was ahead, we brought it back and again JJ was called into action numerous times to keep the score down. Wolves moved the ball well and we got caught out, the boys never stopped amd got one back at the end but we lost in a close good game to watch.

Last game v Newport again we started well, switching the ball, creating many chances and was soon ahead by a few. Newport got back into the game through us becoming complacent, taking too many touches and not respecting the opposition because of this Newport got back into the game. The Nomads got back into their shape and moved the ball quicker and marginally closed the game out in the end.

A great day overall I was very pleased with the boys attitude they moved the ball well and 6v6 suited us.

Man of the match - John-Jay (JJ)

JJ only joined us last month and since he came in he has done really well in training. Today he stood out in goal with some fantastic saves, he was brave and blocked many different shots and double saves. Also the Wolves coach commented on his performance which was nice to hear.

Well done JJ a great start to the Nomads.

John Williams Head Coach

A very fast paced 1st game against Wolves where the boys made a good start. Had to work hard on & off the ball but looked dangerous when in possession, where they were encouraged to attack with pace & numbers, only edged out by a couple of excellent strokes by the opposition.

In the next game with Newport we started a little slow conceding but then come back with real confidence scoring some excellent team goals. Switching the ball & using the pitch, dominating their 1 v 1s & playing at a high tempo.

Against the other Wolves side the boys played as a unit using it to their advantage against a team of individuals, but just being edged out by a couple of late goals. We struck the woodwork twice & tested their keeper a number of times, a very good game.

The final game against the boys dominated throughout scoring numerous times but it was pleasing to see them keeping the work rate up, & not being complacent. Another dominant performance.

A real all round set of performances from the squad.

On Saturday the 9s completed their weekend with a trip to Gawthorpe Hall to face Burnley for 2x 5v5 games.

Game 1 :The players were instructed to play on the front foot, to press and make it difficult for Burnley when they were in possession. The lads followed this instruction really well from the outset and limited the opposition to only a few chances in the 1st half. The 2nd half saw us do this and also be slightly better going forward with positive runs. We ended the game with a narrow defeat following a couple of positional errors.

Game2:
Having taken all information on board from game 1 we were now cruising, out of possession we were relentless and again made life very difficult for the opposition, but now in possession we were linking really well going forward, taking up better positions to receive the ball and taking the opportunities that came our way. We ended game 2 with a convincing win with some well taken team goals.
Altogether it was a good display with some strong individual performances.

Man of the match: Ruben Duffy.

Ruben was sensational vs Burnley, his positioning was spot on. In possession he was incredibly calm and composed, his decision making was immense and he made a number of defensive blocks and tackles.

A real mature performance from Ruben, well done. Leighton Sumner.

Another great experience for the 9s this weekend visiting Burnley. The boys were encouraged to embrace & enjoy these opportunities.

A very fast start from the boys with some excellent combinations creating chance after chance, which would have resulted in many goals if not for an outstanding Burnley goalkeeper. We rotated the team to give players time on the pitch & playing in unfamiliar positions at times whichever led to a very open game with chances & goals at both ends.

The 2nd match once again was a fast start & this time we were able to capitalise & finish the chances more regularly. In the 2nd half we switched off slightly conceded a couple of goals but again we rotated positions giving players as much time on the pitch as possible. The effort & work rate were faultless & another great end to end game.
Well done boys

U10s

U10’s Travelled to Burnley on Saturday for an afternoon KO, with a changed format of 2 x 5v5, 40min games.

Team Brad
Nomads got off to a slow start, going a number of goals behind taken back by the speed and quality of the Burnley players. Credit to these boys though, they got some composure and quality into there play and worked there way back into the game. Sometimes we wanted to many touches of the ball or tried to do to much instead of limiting there touches and moving the ball with conviction and tempo, but what is all inspiring about these boys is they improve, they work really hard and they are relentless at times. There were some awesome goals scored today with standout hat-tricks of long range goals from Declan Whittam and hat-trick of finishes from Charlie Gregory. It is an absolute measure of development, improvement and progression of all our U10’s players when we see some of our players upset and disappointed they haven’t got the Win vs Burnley.

MOM: Declan Whittam
Challenged all game by Charlie Gregory, Declan playing at the base of the diamond was an absolute leader today. He showed a great work ethic, tenacious in the tackle, quality and technique in his long range shooting and a desire to win and drive his team mates around him.

Head Coach: Brad Commins

Team Carl
Nomads like the other team of players got off to a slow start going a couple of goals behind, but adapted and adjusted to the intensity and tempo of Burnley quickly and soon took control of the game. What impressed me the most about this group of players was the aggressive high press that was consistent, relentless and executed to perfection all game and caused the Burnley players so many problems in the way they wanted to play out from the back. Like the other Nomads team there were some good finishes and great goals scored, quality top corner finishes and hat-tricks for Kody Salisbury, Rueben Phillips-Holloway and Tyler Evans.

MOM: Tyler Evans
A great team performance and this award could of gone to any of them. Tyler battled his way into the game and really started to be a constant problem for Burnley. His work rate and ability on the ball really shone through. Tyler was challenged to use his left foot more in attacking position which he did managing to test the keeper on a number of occasions.

Assistant Coach: Carl Butler

U11s - Jordan Parry Head Coach

Another good weekend for the lads. Saturday was set out that boys would play the game under conditions to get the best out of the game. Team objectives, Individual targets and different way of playing produced a good morning of learning / football.

U12s - Leighton Sumner Assistant Academy Director

The U12s welcomed Prestatyn the the Quay3G on Sunday and got themselves off to a decent start by playing out from the back nicely through the midfield and creating a couple of early opportunities, unfortunately we weren't able to finish them off. We then went through a spell where it was quite difficult to break down the opposition and so we decided on a tactical switch which had an immediate impact and we found ourselves in front. We grew stronger from this point and began to open them up frequently.
Defensively we were solid and composed in possession of the ball and some of our breaks were really impressive attacking at real pace.
Overall a great day for the 12s.

U13s - Jordan Taylor Head Coach

For the third week running we were behind and chasing the game due to poor concentration and silly mistakes.

We were 1-2 down at the Half time point despite having the majority of the ball.

Second half and a few changes were made to freshen things up. We equalised not long into the second half from a great cross from Alfie Bennett for Lennon Young to catch it sweetly on the full volley.

From there we dominated an played on two to three touches and moved the ball a lot better this created more chances an scored 4 more great goals. Another goal was conceded due to lack off movement off the ball.

Things still need to improve for the final three games, still looking for composure, bravery and hard work off the ball.

Positive note we’ve come back from losing positions three weeks running which does show character.

U15s - Matt Griffiths Assistant Coach

Back in academy cup action after a weeks off from competive football and the lads started really strong and played with a lot of intensity and deservedly when 1-0 up early on. Prestatyn got back into the game through a nomads error. Nomads managed to end the half 2-1 up but we’re very slow moving the ball and didn’t put Prestatyn defence under much pressure.
HT 2-1

Second half was completely different with nomads dominating the half and putting Prestatyn under massive amount of pressure and caused them problems throughout the half. Game finished 8-2 Nomads but could have easily been a bigger scoreline. More importantly the second half performance was brilliant and especially against a team 12 months older the lads stepped up to the challenge very well and performed brilliantly.
Nomads 8-2 Prestatyn Town
