Full weeks review from all ages U8s to U19s.

U8s - Jordan Parry Head Coach

A really pleasing week with the lads. Both training sessions this week they have shown hard work, great attitude and application to the tasks that were put in-front of them. The obvious but most pleasing was seeing our work in the week implemented into todays games without prompt. Really impressed, We have a bright bunch.

U9s - Denver Green Coach

Todays fixture against Flint saw us playing some great football in spells and passing from the lads and seeing how far they have come as a group. Controlled the ball well but struggled to score in the small goals. Again sometimes making life hard for ourselves at the back not making the right decisions at time but that will take time. Overall some positives to take and a lot to learn from.

U10s

Friday
U10’s travelled to Crewe Alexandra in the Community for a Friday evening game. Playing the 9v9 format on a big pitch with English rules is not something our players are used to, but they quickly adapted to both the format and the shape 1-3-4-1.

Crewe started really quickly and Nomads would find themselves 1-0 down at the start of the game, but the reaction from the Nomads players was really good as the boys started to have some good possession and were playing some good football in spells, playing out from the back, through the wingers or midfield two in Ruben Duffy and Harry Williams.

Nomads going into the 2nd period 2-0 down and we all collectively had spoken about the need to move the ball quicker through the thirds and in transitions, limiting our touches. Crewe were moving the ball quicker and it was evident they were more comfortable in the 9v9 format which would see them end the 2nd period 4-0 up, with both of our GK’s contributing in making important saves.

Going into the 3rd period the challenge for the players was to Win the 3rd period and for our 3 man defence to get up the pitch quicker and close the gap between defence and the midfield. Again the boys had a great response, Mylo Evanson scoring a goal and hitting the post from a 25yrd free kick and our players creating more chances in the final third that earned Nomads a 1-1 score line in the last period but would lose the game 5-1 overall. Plenty of positives and learning points to be taken from these games.

MOM: Max Derbyshire
Ironically in a game where as a team we needed to limited our touches and move the ball quickly because of our opposition, Max was direct, full of energetic running isolating the LB or his opposite number to a 1v1 battle which Max was getting a lot of success from on the RW and was a constant threat to Crewe all evening.

U10s

Saturday
“Derby Day” as we travelled to Flint Town United for what is always a competitive game between our local rivals, playing 2 x 7v7 games.

Again the players would have to adapt to the away venue and formats going from playing Friday night vs Crewe Alexandra on a huge 9v9 pitch to Saturday at Flint on really small tight 7v7 pitch which had limited space to play football in.

Team Brad:
Nomads started the game brightly and we’re moving the ball through the phases and the lines really well and with a good tempo and quality to our game. Samuel and Jermain formed a great understanding playing in the two at the back and were both playing out from the back with real confidence and understanding.

As the games went on it was abundantly clear that Flint have gone in the direction of recruiting the big physical players, who are strong, physical, tough tacklers which I have absolutely no problem with, as these teams are tough to compete against, though personally I choose technicality and skill every time which is exactly what our Nomads players brought to these games with Cole, Super Ted, Charlie, Harry playing some great football, inter linking, driving inside from wide positions, really confident in 1v1 situations it was a great feeling watching these boys play football this way. Oisin was once again brave in goal, making important saves and improved his distribution as the games went on. There were also encouraging games for Jackson scoring and Jasper.

MOM: Jermain Taylor
Our little ball of energy today, never stopped sprinting forward, then recovery runs back to win back possession, a typical wing-back performance with quality and tenacity and formed a solid partnership with Samuel.

Team Andy:
Always in control of these games, playing out from the back with confidence through JJ, Dominic and Eddy inviting Flint into pressing us, then good transitional play through the thirds, through the lines with a positive effect. What was really impressive was the recycling of the ball to keep possession, not forcing the play and going back to keep the ball through JJ and starting again.

When playing forward it was quick and with intensity attacking at speed, switching the play really well, through Ruben, Max, Mylo, and our “trainer of the week”Stanley.

MOM: Mylo Evanson
Mylo was very good today in and out of possession and also defended brilliantly when called upon and was deadly going forward. Mylo has really taken on board his challenge of scoring more goals and assists.

Special mention to Doninic, Max and Samuel who all played up for our U11’s on Saturday vs Flint.

U11s

Team Boyes
1st half 3-1 win

Saturday morning we were treated to a proper derby against our local rivals and knew we were going to be in for a tough physical game from the off. We played on a smaller pitch than usual but this played into our hands as technically we were a lot sharper and put an industrious display on the pitch.

The boys were electric and in possession our mobility made it look like we had an extra player on the pitch but to match this out of possession every player was so tactically sharp marking both the man and the space in behind. This half was the boys in their prime and an example of everything we’ve worked at.

2nd half
3-2 loss

Very clichè but the score in this game doesn’t reflect how we played at all. We were so structured out of possession from their goal kicks that the goal keeper was forced to kick long every time which Connor then won the ball back and we would attack, this repeated throughout the game with some questionable accuracy issues in front of goal, we could have scored 6,7 goals this same way.

Man of the match
Unai Schmid-Mielgo

Playing in the centre of the pitch Unai was the heart and sole of the performance, in and out of possession he positively effected the game with a very industrious performance. Well done

U12s vs Rochdale - Iain Bennett Head Coach

The lads hosted EFL opposition Friday night in an 11v11 fixture, the game was 3x25 minute periods, the lads started slowly having to adjust to a new shape, new pitch dimensions and it showed in the opening period where they struggled to find any form of flow to their game, the 2nd and 3rd periods were far better after they had time to adjust to the pitch size they used the space well and put some lovely patterns of football together creating some good chances and also defending well against a very good and lively Rochdale team, it was Zac Edwards who deservedly grabbed two goals, one in each period to eventually win the game 2-0, the performance following the first period was very good and the challenge was set to carry this into the game Sunday.

Vs Flint

The lads turned up Sunday to the challenge of playing local rivals Flint on a half pitch, the performance from start to finish was very very good, regardless of going 1-0 down and 2-0 against the run of play, the lads stick to their principles and played some excellent football on a very tight pitch space, they scored five goals themselves and in truth created that many goal scoring chances could and probably should have scored many many more, overall this was a tough experience for them to play in but to their credit they were superb and dominated all areas of the game from start to finish. They have been excellent this weekend with two very good performances that we will now all carry into the remaining sessions and games.

U13s - Leighton Sumner Head Coach

The u13s played away to flint on an extremely tight pitch, this was always going to go against how our boys like to play, this was quite evident and we found it very hard to break them down. Having said that we did have a multitude of chances but somehow didn't supply the finishing touch. Flint caught us with one moment at the end to beat us 1-0Disappointing result but our boys will continue to do things right and develop.

U14s - Anthony Weaver Head Coach

14’s travelled to Flint hoping to build on the recent good performances. Nomads started the game very brightly and enjoyed early dominance creating 3 very good chances but unfortunately couldn’t find the quality to finish. Nomads would pay for not taking the chances as flint hit on the counter and broke free to score. Nomads reacted well and created 2 more guilt edge chances but again would pay for missed chances as Flint scored two more quickfire goals after defensive mistakes. Just before half-time nomads finally got a goal miller scored from the penalty spot.

2nd half game turned into a scrappy affair neither team playing with any real tempo. Flint would score a 4th after a brilliant strike from 30 yards. Miller scored his and nomads 2nd before the end but game finished 4-2 in Flint’s favour.

U15s - Leighton Sumner Assistant Director

The u15s hosted Flint and put in a really solid performance, the boys have trained extremely hard all week and took all the information and detail into todays game, from back to front they were very organised and disciplined, they battled hard for one another and they moved the ball really well, they created plenty of opportunities scoring one very good goal and stayed resilient defensively. Really looking forward to the boys finishing the season strong.

U16s - Jordan Jackson Head Coach

A fantastic performance from the 16s today. Defensively we knew we were going to face a different challenge but it was a challenge the lads were ready for and dealt with superbly well.

The boys headed into the end of the first half with it all square when Flint equalised after Joe Hales put the Nomads 1-0. In the second half the boys were excellent and really put their stamp on the game. Dominating with and without the ball. They were rewarded for their efforts with Goals from Harry Strong, Caleb Jones and a wonderful strike from Harry Serridge to secure all 3 points.

A great performance from the boys and I hope they’re really pleased with the work they put in today.

U19s - Gareth Richards Head Coach

The Under 19s rounded off a great week with a 3-2 home league success in the Flintshire Derby against a resilient Airbus UK Broughton.

The lads followed up last weeks league success on the road v Llandudno with a fantastic 1-0 win in the British Colleges Premier Cup Quarter Final at Bishop Burton College in midweek that saw them progress to the semi-final stage for the second time in as many seasons.

This meeting with Airbus was the third and final time the two sides would meet this season with the previous two fixtures being competitive affairs that required us to be at our very best in order to come out on top. We started this encounter really well and in truth we should have been two goals to the good within the first five minutes. Firstly Jack Burman blasted over from the edge of the box and shortly after Alfie Vaughan dragged his shot wide when well placed to score. As luck would have it, on 7 minutes with their first attack of the game Airbus forced us into a defensive mistake and commit a tackle that resulted in the awarding of a penalty. Hughie Foulkes in the Nomads goal who has performed heroics from 12 yards of late was unable to prevent us from falling behind as the Airbus taker stroked home confidently. All credit must go to the lads who stuck to their task of moving the ball quickly to breakdown the Airbus block with the excellent Burman at the heart of our good play. It did seem only a matter of time before we would grab the equaliser and it came on the stroke half time through former wing-maker John Cooper. We won the ball high-up the pitch and the ball fell to the feet of Vaughan did well to work half-a-yard down the left hand-side and pull the ball back to the onrushing Cooper who fired right footed into the top corner.

The lads started the second half on the front foot and laid siege on the Airbus goal. Brad Barnes and Dylan Evans both had efforts blocked before Burman got the goal his performance deserved on 57 minutes when he got his head onto a Barnes corner to nod us into the lead. Two minutes later and another corner routine led to our third goal. This time Barnes’ corner from the right was flicked goal-wards by Harvey Morris and Skipper Leon Bennett turned home at the far post to grab his second goal in as many games following his all-important winning goal in the cup quarter final on Wednesday. Three nearly became four moments later when Barnes left Airbus defenders trailing in his wake before striking the foot of the post with an effort from the edge of the box. In all honesty, from this moment on we didn’t do enough to take the game away from Airbus and as it was, we had to rely on the reflexes of Hughie Foulkes to preserve our 2-goal advantage on more than one occasion. With minutes remaining Rafael Endemano, Dylan Evans and Taylor Harris all should have made the game safe before the visitors ensured the final moments would be nervy after another defensive error led to a breakaway goal in the 91st minute. As it was, it proved to be too little too late and we ran out 3-2 winners
