U16s Nomads Academy Crowned Northern Academy League Champions 2021/2022

U16s Nomads Academy Crowned Northern Academy League Champions 2021/2022

Jay Catton22 Mar 2022 - 15:28

Full weeks review for all ages with some big results U15s, U16s and U19s.

U8s - Stephen Boyes Head Coach

The 8s travelled down the A55 to play Llandudno in the OPS wind arena which is a very apt name for the ground as it seamed any time the ball was off the ground it blown off the pitch at every opportunity.

Before the game was underway I had to remind the players of the standards expected at the academy as on arrival we looked tired in the warm up and weren’t giving the 100% expected.

Instantly then from the 1st minute the boys gave the reaction expected moving the ball patiently around the pitch, passing and moving to get them selves in forward areas.

The boys shown real team work and creative build up play when in possession scoring some great little one touch tap in goals across the keeper but have lots of work to do still in their efforts out of possession.

U9s Jason Bell Head Coach

We travelled to the OPS Wind Arena, to play Llandudno in an early kick off.

It was a sunny morning, great conditions for a game. The pitches were tight compared to our pitch which made for a physical game if we never moved the ball quickly enough which we spoke about. Unfortunately this was to be the pattern for the first game, the boys never moved the ball quick enough and made the game a battle. A few playing as individuals on the ball and when we lost the ball never reacted and worked back. Spencer was busy in goal and pulled off a number of great saves to keep us in the game. The difference between the teams was just the one goal in the game to Llandudno towards the end in a tight game.

Before the second game I spoke to the boys asking for the same level of desire from them all and they needed to move the ball quicker. I was happy to sit back and watch them work things out for themselves. They started quickly and was soon ahead by Frankie, then Llandudno equalised and was soon a head by a mistake, before the break we brought it level 2-2. I was happy with the first half and asked for the same second half. Again Spencer was busy in goal and we went ahead 3-2. Then 4-2, towards the end Llandudno had a pen and from close range Spencer made a great save but the second ball fell to Llandudno 4-3. The last goal was a well worked goal Aston out wide playing it into Ted catching Llandudno out and finishing off a well taken goal to make it 5-3. Frankie two, Ted hatrick.

Man of the match - Spencer Satchwell

Spencer was brilliant in goal. He pulled off a number of reaction saves, his starting position was good and one save he pulled off on the edge of his area nearly getting caught out to make a great save.
In the second game I spoke about the boys talking to each other more to help each other out, Spencer did that and it was good to hear. Good all round performance.

Well done Spencer.

1st time in a while it's been a nice morning of football down the coast. The boys reverted to the diamond formation with it being a tight pitch. A really tight 1st game with few chances we moved the ball well in spells with a well worked team goal for Mylo. A little guilty of switching off at times but not much in the game.

2nd game we got off to a flyer with Mylo scoring a well taken hattrick . We then conceded a few goals where players were not quick enough to press  the ball. We reponded by trying to take the game to Llandudno & it was a good end to end finish.

Man of the match - Mylo Evanson

Mylo carried on his good run of form with a hard working performance plus 4 excellent goals. Well done again Mylo!

U10s - Brad Commins Head Coach

U10’s travelled to Sunny Llandudno on Saturday.

Nomads we’re going into this game with confidence on the back of a fantastic performance last week.

First Qtr and Nomads started the game quite brightly trying to move the ball industriously across the pitch. We had set some team objectives before the game and individual player challenges, which was really pleasing to see come to fruition with some players in particular Max Cooper looking after the ball in key areas and Jacob Tasker applying some quality finishing that would see us reply to an earlier Llandudno goal 1-1 at the end of the quarter.

Second Qtr and it was a warm morning and the players had worked really hard in that first Qtr, but Nomads were just lacking that bit of quality. Llandudno we’re playing well, giving us a tough physical, hard working game, but some of our players had an edgy, nervousness about them and the quality and first touch was missing from there play and we couldn’t get any rhythm or fluidity to our play and would end the second Qtr 0-0.

Third Qtr seen Nomads improve there link up play and the movement in and out of possession improved, Kody was once again trying to drive the team from midfield, threading balls through the lines and scoring a good goal and Mario dropping in pockets of space and working hard to link up play. Both keepers were playing some good passes into players feet and Zacks communication today was really good and clear. The boys were trying and probing but the quality was letting us down, Miller was cutting in off the left and switching the play, but unfortunately we were not effective in the final third. Again a moment of quality in another great strike and finish by Jacob Tasker for our third goal which would end the game 3-3 in what was on reflection a fair result as both teams worked hard and provided a good game.

MOM: Kody Salisbury
In a game where I thought the whole team lacked quality at times, Kody worked tirelessly, threading passes through spaces, scoring a good goal and assisting Jacobs two goals and never stopped trying to make things happen on the pitch.

U11s - Eliot Hale Assistant Coach

The 11s travelled to Llandudno Saturday morning.

Nomads started slow and wasn’t up to much going forward but defended well as a unit. We got caught out with a dodgey ball which was misjudged and cost us a goal. 1-0 down at the end of the first period. A lot of blaming and moaning which is very rare from the lads so we looked at it and made changes between the team.

Said to the lads we’re still in it and can comfortably win the game get the ball down tidy up our passes and step up a gear and show me a reaction, within 2 minutes we equalised and had a great reaction throughout, was good to see the lads react and the way they came in after the period showed they cared and knew they had to put it right.

As the game went on we got ourselves in front and enjoyed being on the ball playing some great football bringing the opposition out of position playing around them creating ourselves great chances.

Final period praised the lads for the reaction and the quality and desire to get back in front and play comfortably. Again we stepped up the gear and each individual did not stop running and done everything myself and Ross asked. Bare numbers all game in hot conditions credit to the lads.

U13s - Jordan Taylor Head Coach

We actually took the lead for the first time in a long time today. But our lead was cut short by giving away a cheap penalty.

Before then we looked in control and worked well off the ball for a change. As soon as they equalised from the spot, heads went down and mistakes started to creep in again.

Before we knew we were once chasing the game again, losing possession cheaply high up and were then caught out on a counter leaving us in 3v2 overload.

Shortly after that we were 3-1 down from poor defending leaving far too easy for their centre forwards.

We scored before the break going into the half 3-2 down but still all to play for.

The instructions were not to concede early on to keep us within the game but low an behold conceded early on from again further lazy defending.

Again which has been topic of the season not wanting to do the ugly stuff, being too nice in 50/50 challenges. We look nice an neat on the ball but off it lads need to have desire an passion to win it back, working hard and doing the dirty side of the game without that things will stay the same.

Disappointing end to a very disappointing season.
FT:6-3

U14s - Leighton Sumner Head Coach

The 14s have had an excellent season given all the ups and downs with injuries etc. They went into the final league game of the season top of the pile but playing third placed Llandudno who were one of 4 teams that could make the top 2!

We put ourselves in front and then fell to an equaliser. We took the lead for the second time and looked as though we would have too much for our hosts, unfortunately we couldn't get a third goal to sure things up and we conceded with not long left to play, we through caution to the wind to try and get the winner but unfortunately wasn't our day.

The lads have been magnificent and a real pleasure throughout the season, myself, Rich, Jared and Benno have all loved working with the boys and can all see what a talented bunch they are. I'm sure they will have better days in the future.

U15s - Anthony Weaver Head Coach

15’s went in final league game knowing a win at home Vs Llandudno would mean we finish 2nd and play TNS in the northern national semi final. Nomads had the best start scoring within a minute Through Haydn. Nomads grew in confidence from this and started to control the game. Rob Austin made it 2-0 before Haydn got his 2nd Theo grabbed a 4th then Haydn completed a first half hattrick to make it 5-0. By this point nomads in complete control moving the ball brilliantly and pressing Llandudno high up the pitch. Haydn grabbed his 4th and nomads 6th just before H/T3 more goals followed in the 2nd half Emil with 2 and Alex Jones grabbing one. A convincing, comfortable win.

U16s - Antonio Maghales Head Coach

Today Nomads hosted Llandudno in last group stage game of the season. Nomads 16s only needed a draw to secure the first place in the League group stage and it was exactly what the hosts got today against Llandudno.

The game was played in slow pace, the hosts struggled to control the game. Both teams had few chances. Nomads looks to play with high tempo on the ball and high intensity off the ball, however, the hosts weren’t capable to showcase their game.

Another performance below par from the Nomads. Today’s draw secured the 1st place for Nomads u16s in the League.

U19s - Gareth Richards Head Coach

This week the Under 19s navigated successfully a couple of tricky looking fixtures to record two wins from two in the Cymru Premier Development League North.

First up was a trip to Prestatyn to play under the lights at Bastion Park for our re-arranged fixture on Tuesday evening. After the early scare of falling a goal behind the boys rallied well and eventually run out 6-1 winners. The impressive Jack Burman netted a quick-fire double to turn the game on its head in the first half before a double from Jack Hitchen and further goals from Toby Gallagher-Keenan and Ethan Davies in the second half put the seal on what was a professional performance on a tricky pitch.

On Sunday we welcomed Llandudno to the Quay 3G for our penultimate home game of the League season. In bright sunshine the boys turned in a fine display of attacking football that saw eight different goal scorers. A hat-trick from Josh Williams, doubles from Jamie Nash, Jordan Pownall and Ethan Davies and a goal apiece for Jack Burman, Charlie Davies, Iwan Roberts and Jack Hitchen saw us run out comfortable winners.
